I got this for my 60 gallon freshwater tank after one of those green algae developed that made it look like the artificial pond in my bedroom. I didn't use it right away though as I had already managed to get rid of the green thick mist with an Acurel phosphate pad I bought at my local fish store (algae cannot survive without phosphate). Finally, I didn't want to rush to add too much material to my filter at once. After hearing that algae can also thrive on nitrate, I decided to put it in the bottom basket of my Penn. Plax Cascade 1000 cascade filter just above the coarse and medium foam. Having regularly replaced the bag every week or so I have to say this is a fantastic addition to all the other media I use (see my review of the Penn Plax Cascade 1000 filter). Even a few weeks after a 25% water change (I do this every 3 weeks) my nitrate levels stay at a minimum and the water itself stays as clear as possible. Overall this is a great product and would recommend to all aquarium enthusiasts.
