Review on ProSensor 710 Franklin Sensors Precision by Len Chandler

I can't understand why this is such a highly rated spike finder. In theory, the idea is sound. Wider face for more precision. No more guessing where the edges of the lace are, it just shows where the entire lace is, mark left, right and center and you're done. Right? Oh no. Not correct. Not at all. The lights that are supposed to indicate where the entire side of the tip is have absolutely no accuracy, rhyme or reason for it. On repeated attempts to "find" a hairpin whose exact location I knew because I could see it through the electrical box nailed to it, the lights sometimes came on, sometimes not, sometimes 3 lights (a hairpin) in one were displayed location, but then the lights would move completely to one side or the other with little to no movement of the spike finder. I knew at this point that I couldn't trust it to really locate the bolt, but I still wanted to give it a try when wall-mounting a new TV, and no, not much better. There have been several instances where the entire panel would have illuminated the lights. At first I thought I was holding it by a horizontal head/lock, so I moved it up or down a bit, and no, it was still glowing. Then I moved it an inch to one side or the other and there was no light at all. Or just a few lamps lit up where others were. Out of sheer curiosity, I noticed the edges of the 6 LEDs inexplicably popping up, took a final nail and hammered it in on both sides. Nothing. Awesome, now just put the finishing nail in the middle and here's your bobby pin, right? no Went straight. I even used a cake tester put through the hole to make sure I didn't hit anything and no, it went all the way through and tapped the back of the drywall on the other side of the wall in the next room. Hmm, maybe it's a weird double bolt (that was next to the door frame) and I just accidentally slipped in between them, so I took a nail left and right of my middle nail. Left? Nothing. Pierced again. To the right? hairpin! Hey finally! Just because I wanted to give this thing a fair shot, I stepped a foot off those holes and tried again. This time he didn't even find the spike I now knew was there. It doesn't matter if I went left to right or right to left. Nothing. It's a perfectly adequate product with about the same accuracy as any standard spike finder you can get at Home Depot or Lowes, except this thing was $60 when I bought it, not $20 like most other studs -Finder and just like I wouldn't trust a $20 stud finder, I wouldn't fucking trust this one to find it. After experimenting with a nail and cake tester to find the location of an unknown pin and using a rare earth magnet on a string, I found drywall screws to test both pins and a few good taps to make sure the TV wall mount was installed and the TV freezes. I had very, very high hopes for this because people seem to swear by this thing and a thorn finder that actually works would be a real godsend as thorn finders are useless in trash cans, but that didn't even help. work just as well as the large viewfinders and cost three times as much. No thank you.
