Needs some practice

This is a very strange substance that can work well in various areas of renovation, but it may take some practice. It's not some kind of cream spatula. It's somewhere between frosting and very finely ground styrofoam or something like that. It's fairly dry, extremely light and a bit finicky. It adheres well to ceiling repairs, as well as to a knife. A wet blade often gives better results. In fact, adding a SMALL amount of water to this substance will significantly change its character and give you a number of possibilities. You can smooth almost dry product with a damp sponge, but if you do it too soon you will wipe it off on the sponge. one application, but successive incremental fills are easier to manage. Can be easily sanded after drying, touch up if necessary. However, if it does not dry completely, it may crack and will need to be reapplied. After drying, it takes the paint well. What I like most is the ease with which the flow properties of this material can be changed with or without the addition of water. If you don't have luck with that, experiment with leftovers and see if you can learn to work with it. It's more versatile than you might think. I also like that it doesn't splatter if you drop a drop. Cleaning is easy.
