Review on Sulky America Metallic Starter Thread by Dawn Fischer

At the time of my purchase the description was incorrect, it said the set contained 29 spools of thread when in fact there are 26. I've notified Revain so if this is the case it will hopefully be fixed soon. Although disappointed by the mismatch, I am happy with this purchase and am not giving any stars for the error. The description isn't very detailed and the picture isn't enlarged, so here's all the info on what you're getting: • 10 x 250 yard Holoshimmer bobbins (145 series): 6001 (silver), 6003 (light gold) , 6008 (Yellow Gold), 6011 (Light Copper), 6014 (Christmas Red), 6018 (Christmas Green), 6030 (Light Blue), 6045 (Dark Multi), 6046 (Light Multi), 4051 (Arctic Black).• 10x Silver 250-Yard -Spools (145 Series): 8001 (Silver), 8003 (Light Gold), 8014 (Christmas Red), 8018 (Christmas Green), 8020 (Dark Multicolor), 8024 (Light Multicolor), 8040 (Opaque), 8050 (Purple), 8051 (Black), 8052 (Light Blue). • 6 x 165yd* Real Metal Spools (142 Series): 7007 (Gold), 7009 (Pewter), 7022 (Jade/Purple), 7026 (Silver). /Baby Blue/Pink/*140m), 7027 (Multi Cranberry/Gold/Pine Green/*140m), 7051 (Black). The suitcase is bigger than I expected but there is no extra space in it, I just wasn't thinking realistically. It measures 14" (including hinges) x 14.5" (including handle) x 2" (closed) / 1.5" and 1" (open - one side has a raised lip to keep the box closed). The case snaps securely into place and when closed there is no living hinge to break and there are real hinges on the hinge side (again, not a 'living' hinge to fail) and can even be folded in if desired split in two parts with instructions included This case is very durable and precision made The bobbins are placed on spindles which have an eyelet to lift each bobbin for easy removal as well as a rib to hold the bobbins securely without slipping. I can't think of a feature that was missed, it's technical perfection - even the label can be peeled off cleanly. The housing holds a total of 104 spools (84 of which are made of metal, so there is room for duplicates/other filaments) and fits other manufacturers , if they are narrow enough (thin) in profile. There is space next to the rows of coils. There are long slip labels (simple) in the box and I was thrilled to see a sheet offering various sets of pre-printed labels for free if you send them a self addressed postage paid envelope. How strange! :O) For a while I matched colors when the prices were good (Revain addon) but I was lucky I only duplicated 3 and they're good colors so it's not a waste of time. my book. The themes are wonderful. Holoshimmer and Sliver aren't technically "threads" but flat polyester ribbons. They are identical except the sliver is solid color and the holoshimmer has a holographic effect that adds shine. Original Metallic is a very thin (apparently as thick as a thread of dental floss, maybe a little thicker but not by much) real dental floss (round) that is a core wrapped in metallic foil. there is no problem working with these threads (it's a good idea to keep the working length shorter) and the colors and effects are beautiful. Also, Holoshimmer/Splitter is really good for cross stitch stitches for more complex projects. The thread is very thin (flat), so it does not deform the cord and does not leave swollen holes. It's also impossible to split and is so slick that it's easy to slip out after a project is finished. Overall a much friendlier (and cheaper) alternative to popular line products, IMO. And the different colors allow for an extra grid so I can label the chart pages without confusion. I hope this helps and please ask in the comments if I missed anything you would like to know.
