Expensive but worth it

I bought filled heating oil in Argentina, it was sold here before and was not good on arrival. It starts and idles like a sewing machine. This is a 1970's Kohler k341 on a Ford LGT 165 and now it runs fantastic.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • You could choose a newer model

Strong coil and good hot spark!

I use them on small Kohler engines in garden tractors. Works great, spark is hotter than original, instant start in cold weather. Being an epoxy filled coil, they resist vibration very well. I've been using it for 6 years now and it has never let me down!

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Not reliable

Coil not as shown

Many others claim to have received the original Bosch Blue coil. I had a Brazilian silver spool which is the best bad replacement available but not the same as pictured. This precision spool can be found elsewhere for less than $30. I will buy another one and see what they send me and update this review.

Pros
  • Excellent performance
Cons
  • Damaged

Short life is good for ignition parts

So this is the blue epoxy filled coil I was looking for. It worked great when I installed it on my 1974 MG Midget. Spool stamped made in Brazil. However, I give it a bad rating as it only lasted about 3 months. The car started to stall at high rpm, and after a week or so the coil became so weak that it was barely producing enough spark to keep it idling. I installed an older Pertronix coil from another midget I have and the machine woke up again. I've heard that epoxy filled coils don't…

Don't let the picture fool you

There is a lot of controversy about the blue Bosch coil. whether you use it or not, the ballast resistor, whether you get a fake or not. etc. I will update this review once I fit this coil but for now I can say with certainty that the picture given for this item is incorrect. the picture looks more like one of the "silver" coils. But what I got looks exactly like the Brazilian blue 00012 spool which I was hoping and expecting based on the part number. It passes the 4 tests I read about: - The…

Genuine Brazilian Blue Coil

Thanks to another reviewer who confirmed that this batch of coils passed 4 tests I decided to take a chance. I ordered mine less than a week after this review was posted, so I figured I had a good shot. Those of us who drive older air-cooled VWs might pay extra attention to our details. It has an internal resistor, 3 spade terminals, no oil sloshing out. The packaging says "Made in Brazil". The one that came to me shows a resistance of 3.5 ohms on the primary and 8.1k ohms on the secondary. I…

2 out of 4 failed in the last 4 months!

I have bought at least 4 of these coils to use with Pertronix ignition converters. Two of them have failed in the last 4 months. None lasted 6 months. Coils get very hot and fail. I have no idea what's going on inside. Laboratory tests showed a very weak, intermittent spark, although the coils have the correct resistance - a primary winding of 3-4 ohms. secondary approx. 9 kOhm. I suspect that the high voltage is shorted to the chassis inside. Once they were good coils, not anymore! I replaced…

  • Delivery was very quick

The car started well for the first time that day

I have a 1992 VW Jetta GL. My car had starting problems. The car started fine the first time, but once the engine was warm and you tried to start it again, it wouldn't idle. former. I can drive about 30 minutes, but if I stop and park the car for 15 minutes and then come back to her, she doesn't want to be idle. You have to start the car about 10 times before it starts. There was also overpressure in the cooling system. The engine started and then died within seconds. I went to the mechanic…
