A powerful but unbalanced fan makes it very noisy.

If this fan was balanced, it would be a great fan. Unfortunately, it's not balanced and gets louder every week. It's outside the return window, so I'm left with a $155 fan that I can only use at the lowest speed or it'll break out of my window frame. It would be great if Airking's quality control system was conscientious. When you buy this fan, be sure to return it within 30 days if it makes a lot of noise, or you will regret it.

Worth buying - heating, cooling and air quality

I was hesitant to buy this product. I actually looked at a whole house fan on my ceiling. My house is less than 1100 square feet and I installed this fan in the back room. So I set it to exhaust and high, opened the windows in the living room and kitchen, and yes, you can feel the wind blowing through the windows. It really lets outside air in. The house feels really great. I also turned on the intake side and yes it blows in the house. Really worth it for the price. If you're on a budget and…

Engine unbalanced at high RPM, windows wobble

Initial thoughts were impressive, looks good and is easy to fit. I made a mounting frame that I can install into the window frame without damaging the window frame. I brought it in and turned it on. The low was great, calm and moving some air. I decided to crank it up to the max and that's when my disappointment began. This thing shook the window so badly you could feel it on the stairs. I'll call Lasko (the company is listed on the motor) and see what they can do. I'd rather not ship it due to

DO NOT buy this fan. Bought April 22; The plastic motor mount failed on June 5 after less than 10 days of use. This was of course a week and a half after the 30 day return period. Chip. Update: Upon further inspection, it was discovered that the welds attaching the motor assembly to the grill had failed. A very pleasant AirKing customer service representative walked me through the steps to replace the unit. This raised my rating from one star to three stars. Will be updated again once this…

Good performance, excellent manufacturer support

This is a high performance fan. I've been using the fan almost continuously for over 6 months, varying the speed from low to high and using it as a suction and exhaust fan. I've installed it in windows and even used it as an attic fan in my garage. Recently someone in our house tried to light our toaster and filled the entire first floor with smoke. I turned the fan on the 2nd floor window to maximum, the 1st floor window cracked, after 5 minutes the smoke was gone. The smell lasted longer, but

New Models: Noise and Vibration

The simple fact is that the Air King 20" Whole Home Window Fan has gotten progressively worse over the past 30+ years - that's how long I've been using them. My uncle gave me a used one that he stopped using in the early 1980's. It worked great for another 15 years - with very quiet and smooth operation. When it finally broke in the mid/late 1990's I bought another 20" Air King and it worked great again - running very quietly with no vibration. About 15 years later one hot summer my son bought…

Stop thinking about it and buy now

I bought 2. They're both in my bedroom, which is at the other end of a fairly large house. I like noise and air movement when I'm sleeping and it's definitely overkill. fixation. You can laugh at me, I can take it. Noise: I used to sleep with a fan next to me. These two fans are no more than 5 feet apart and both are quieter than a single fan. Strange. Especially with the amount of air they move, which is a heck of a lot. You actually hear almost nothing but the air, not the fans at all…

Big Loud Beast is good for home fans

If you're reading this, you probably got the message. These large fans can create negative pressure in your home by blowing outwards. You light this thing up and then open windows elsewhere in your home to essentially create powerful artificial cross ventilation that quickly replaces the hot daytime air inside your home with the cool night air outside. In the off-season, such a fan can eliminate the need for air conditioning and save you a fortune on your energy bills. We even occasionally…
