inMotion iM7 is without a doubt the best on the market

I shopped online for several hours before making the very difficult decision of buying the Altec Lansing inMotion iM7. I have been an avid Bose fan for over 15 years but decided to try another brand which I have also used. The Bose Sound Dock didn't have the bass that most Bose products offer. I believe this is due to the lack of Acustimass (aka subwoofer) technology. Bose also lacked the volume that the iM7 offered. I looked closely at the Klipsch iGroove HG which would be my second choiceโ€ฆ

Pros
  • A dream come true
Cons
  • Expensive insurance

Great sound machine

I've listened closely to many similar devices including those from Bose, Logitech, Klipsch and other Inmotion devices. I believe the sound of this unit tops them all. It has a powerful amplifier and is capable of reproducing an amazing base and clear mids and highs. It works very well when you plug in an iPod or other player using the included stereo mini cable (which you can also get at any radio store if you ever need a shorter or longer cable). I don't see how this product can be improved in

Nice sound, nice box, easy setup

After much deliberation I ordered the iM7 (it was on sale!) even though I couldn't listen to it in any store. I felt not only relieved but also very happy when I finally listened! I'm not a fan of high-end music, but I do listen to offline classical music, as well as trance, rock, jazz and blues. Bach and Miles Davis sound sweet and full. The bass is quite tight, the highs are clean and not tinny. The sound is quiet and big for a small box. I carried the box to work on the subway, so it's notโ€ฆ

VERY high quality sound!

I work in the music store and I know a good sound when I hear it. This device is AWESOME! It's not just about deep bass or crisp highs, it's about everything in the range from 20 Hz to 20 kHz! For a portable stereo system with small speakers, this is AMAZING! There's no gaping hole at the crossover point, and no ridiculous bass or treble boost. However, if you want more bass, this will distort you like crazy long after the same size boxes! The only downside to the iM7 is that you have to beโ€ฆ

Good sound but in portable audio and video

Unlike others here, I thought this was HUGE! I don't know, maybe I was expecting a smaller size for a portable player. The sound was GOOD, but it didn't blow my mind either. I find my Sony ghetto blaster is a bit bigger and the sound is much better! So yes it was good, I got it and took it out, plugged it in, listened to the iPod, changed the song and BOOM my new 30GB iPod froze. It did it for me, packed it back up and here we go. Now forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what you're buyingโ€ฆ

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Finally iPod speakers that don't suck!

I bought two different brands of iPod speakers, both of which I returned to the store. I couldn't believe how awful the sound was and I paid over $100 for each. (one was Memorex, the other was an Apple brand) I was finally ready to spend the big bucks and buy a Bose. I read a customer review (here on Revain) and the guy suggested trying "Altec Lansing inMotion iM7". He said it sounded amazing, just as good as Bose (and a lot cheaper) but with a few more desirable features that Bose seemed toโ€ฆ

Great bang for your buck!

I have had this speaker for 4 years now. I'm a children's animator, so I use that as my sound system. I use it at over 200 parties each year and it's always a ready made bunny. It just keeps ticking. I bought a shoulder strap but still carry it around in a heavy holdall as it's with me most of the time. It dents pretty easily, so if you're transporting it make sure you put it in another bag. It is important to me to appear professional and not hackneyed. The volume and sound quality are prettyโ€ฆ

Cons

Works great and meets a variety of material requirements

I chose Altec and others over Bose because of the reviews and price - and I'm very happy with my choice! The unit looks great, fits on my shelf and just does its job - delivering clean, clear, high quality sound. I can hear my iPod, but I also have an iM7 hooked up to my TV's audio output, which means I get GREAT sound from TV, DVDs and CDs (which I play through my DVD player). I have bulkier audio gear and satellite speakers (just moved to a new house) but the Altec system gives me really good

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Factor Set

perfect companion for your iPod

Sometimes iPod headphones just don't help. I've been looking long and hard for a "boombox" to complement my iPod video. The iM7 proved to be the best value for money and when I got it I was blown away. In particular, I have a jazz tuba album that I love. It was good through headphones, but great thanks to the iM7's strong, smooth bass. I couldn't think of a better test. I like the battery or mains plug option and bought 8 D cells + charger from Revain which saved me a lot of money (8 alkaline D
