I love this filter but am disappointed that there are no instructions. I don't know what these things are or what they do, I'm new to the sponge filter. I have to look online. Annoying lack of instructions

I didn't expect to find them at such a great price! They're great for our 20 gallon tanks and safe for frying. It's easy to clean and you can also get replacement sponges here at Revain for a very reasonable price. When they reach the end of their life, you don't need to clean them, just replace them. I will definitely buy them again and would recommend them to anyone who needs a good, reliable filter for a 20 gallon or smaller aquarium, especially if it is a cultured or live plant aquarium.

When the bubbles come to the surface they stir up the surface water without creating a strong current. Surface slime was an issue and it was resolved. Maybe too much hassle, but for me simply pressing the sponge against the wall of the aquarium near where the bubbles reach the surface solved the problem instantly. Very easy to clean in the aquarium water when changing the water. To make sure you don't contaminate the tank with all the dirt this thing sucks up, I recommend putting a plastic bag over it to get water out of the tank, squeezing it into the bag to clean it, and it never rinse under water tap.
