It didn't last a year

I bought it so I wouldn't have to pay Comcast to rent a modem. It was fine at first, but sometimes I had to restart. I bought it in April 2020 but it stopped communicating in February 2021. I got up and was told that he left at 5:00 am. I tried rebooting but there was no change so I had to call comcast to see if the disconnect happened. There wasn't one, but I was told there was a new job in my area. I had a very disappointing night with Comcast until they said it had to be a modem even thoughโ€ฆ

Best modem on the market

Usually limited to cable companies but this seller on Revain sells these CM8200a models brand new. They are on ebay but they are all updated. Internet speed up to 2.5Gbps (I currently only need 1GB but will eventually upgrade to 2GB). Two Ethernet ports for 2 separate IP addresses if required. uses Docsis 3.1 format for high speed internet which should work with almost all ISPs (I have RCN and it works fine). Just remember that you need to call your cable provider and tell them you will beโ€ฆ

Great gigabit modem, compatible with Comcast and others

The Arris CM8200A is identical to the much more expensive retail Arris SB8200 which is certified for gigabit service by Comcast, Cox, TWC and other cable providers. It can be used with Comcast Xfinity and other services instead of its retail sibling to avoid paying a monthly fee to rent a gateway. I was able to set up a new Comcast service (Xfinity Gigabit) using this modem in four easy steps: * Plug the coax cable into the wall outlet and the modem's coax jack, then plug the ethernet cableโ€ฆ

Arris Surfboard SB8200 disguised as a power user

This cable modem has 5 stars: It works as expected: Connected to Comcast in the SF Bay Area and I get DOCSIS 3.1 enabled 32 channels down and 4 channels with 10ms ping time , 160 Mbit/s download speed and 6 Mbit/s upload speed. YMMV of course. Test it yourself in the modem's built-in web application at 192.168.100.1 and once enabled, use www<dot>speedtest<dot>net to determine throughput. A few things to note: This is the North American version and once connected, look for a greenโ€ฆ

Modem works great in modems

Modem works great in Comcast. I told them it was an SB8200 and they had no problem activating it with the MAC address below. I'm using a Comcast "Bang!" 300Mbps internet service and an ASUS RT-AC66U router with custom DD-WRT firmware. I get over 300MB of downloads and just over 10MB of downloads on wired hardware, and that's what I'm paying for. Comcast has additional speed packages in my area (up to 1Gbps) but they are more expensive and I don't need those speeds right now, but I'm sure thisโ€ฆ

  • Not bad
