Because there are many fakes on the market, it was legal. It takes a bit of fiddling to make sure you're using the correct COM port in your computer settings, but other than that I'm done.

Came with disk but Windows 10 found the native driver. Used with Baofeng and Chirp software on Baofeng and Tidradio phones. Has worked flawlessly. Make sure the adapter is fully inserted into the radio.

At first I was hesitant to order it because it's so cheap and I didn't know if it was a genuine cable. I opened it up and it works great! I use this for my uv5r. I use it as a police scanner and need it to turn off the transmit ability. People say to use a chirp, but I actually prefer the software that comes with it. A little difficult to install. Use the image in the list for the files you want and use 7zip to extract the .rar file.

I downloaded CHIRP and got this cable to program my UV-5R to FRS/GMRS channels and my local repeaters. The only unusual thing was that I had to go into Device Manager and scroll down until I found the radio in one of the USB dropdowns and clicked "Load Driver". After automatically searching the web for a driver, I opened CHIRP and the radio was listed as COM3. However, when I plugged in the radio the second time, it said COM4.

My issue with this cable is that it's advertised to make you think you've plugged it into your computer and radio, clicked download and that's it. It's not relevant.
