Good latch but replace the screws provided.

Very nice clasp. I'd give it a five if it weren't for the included slotted head screws, which I replaced with stainless steel Philips head screws as other reviewers recommended. I made a paper template by assembling the latch on the table, tracing the details and marking the holes. It would be nice if the vendor provided such a template that also shows the location of the mysterious item I found out about from another review. The tiny screw for the mystery item had a Philips head! I replaced it

Much better than a regular gate latch!

This is just great! (Why is this style so hard to find? It's the best!) Looks a bit dated but not overly corny or super chic. Great for the palisade of my 1930 clapboard house. It's a little odd that there was an extra piece that isn't pictured and a couple of the photos posted on the site look different than what actually arrived but they are still great. Good easy movement. My only complaint is that there isn't a piece to keep it from swinging all the way out once opened - that extra pieceโ€ฆ

Great Latch - Cheap Screws

I would give this product five stars if there wasn't a problem - the flimsy slotted screws that come with the latch. The clasp itself is beautiful and high quality. It has a kind of rustic hand-forged look and is quite heavy. However, the screws were weak and bent when I started screwing them into the pilot holes I had previously drilled in the wood I was working with. Also the fact that they are slotted and not Phillips makes them more awkward to use. In the end I threw away all the cheapโ€ฆ

Mystery part + cheap slotted screws spoil the attractive latch

One star deducted due to missing instructions and a mysterious spare part that had to be found elsewhere. Subtracted a 2nd star for really cheap slotted head screws which had to be replaced with stronger Phillips head wood screws at my expense (which delayed my project). FYI these are #8 x 3/4" screws if you wish to order them at the same time as the latch so you can complete your project without delay. You found the attached photos on another site that sells this latch Even on the internetโ€ฆ

Requires modification to work as described.

This also requires the installation of a plate behind the latch hook which (sometimes) has no countersunk head and comes with a very small pan head screw. The plate is needed for a tight seal. I'll update my review once I get a longer screw and a thinner plate. In addition, it cannot be determined whether the screws are stainless steel or ordinary steel. (Possible rust problem.) They are definitely not brass after using them. Update 18th September: Bought 5 more for extra blinds, 1 of whichโ€ฆ
