MUCH better than low-depot.

Excellent Steel Wool. I used it to polish a shiny rifle stock to a matte finish and it worked great. I started the project with 4/0 steel wool that I bought at a low depot store. It was crap. This steel wool is a fantastic roll of beautiful parallel strands of wool that will not leave cross cuts on the wood surface. In the future I will only use this yarn. The roll is quite large and I ended up polishing the entire stock about 8 inches on a roll. I bought two boxes so I have plenty left.

Not your grandfather's steel wool.

This is not your average hardware store steel wool. It's Mac's daddy, he's very balanced and consistent. I use Lowe's when I want to get rust off my clippers or similar. I'm a mediocre lathe operator and have been doing flatwork for about 40 years. For my small wood lathes, drawers etc I use this in the final stages of filling shellac or chipping off overhangs on a polyester finish. It contains no silicone, so you can apply the finish after use. I like it. Never in my life did I think I would…

The Best of the Best in Abrasives and Finishes

I learned a while ago that steel wool is not just steel wool. Of course, if you shop at the big stores you'll only find lower quality briquette-like steel wool that breaks easily, leaving splinters in your hands and sometimes scratching wood, even at 4x0. I discovered Briwax steel wool rolls and will never go back to the cheap look. You cut off pieces from the roll (when breaking, the fibers are also broken, so scissors are needed). It leaves no fragments and does an excellent job on the second
