Wired connection only, do not use batteries

We no longer use this product. Now I know it's meant to be hardwired, so I'm giving it 3 stars instead of a lower one. We needed a battery powered device and based on reviews it worked for others. In fact, it only runs on batteries, but the batteries only last a month. Otherwise, you will hear chirping all the time.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Interchangeable

Does not work with other connected BRK 7010B and SC7010B.

Does not work with other BRK 7010B and SC7010B networked alarms!. When you plug them in, all alarms will sound immediately. They may work with some older models but not with current BRK products. It seems that BRK or First Alert no longer make products that are compatible with each other, so try a different line of products if you want to use both heat detectors with smoke detectors.

AC socket assembly is missing

The package arrived quickly as expected but was wrapped in standard Revain bubble wrap and the product box inside the package was partially crumpled from an open flap. Upon inspection, the AC jack assembly (the part that makes the wire connection to the building's electrical grid) was missing. Other than that the product works as advertised but Revain should be able to manage packaging/shipping a bit better.

Superseded by obsolete Firex units

Some Massachusetts locations require heat detectors to comply with state fire codes. When our apartment building needed new ones, we found that they were not a direct replacement for our older Firex models. Even the Firex didn't have a direct replacement, and while older Firex models have worked with BRK along the same lines, according to the Kidde/Firex website, the new ones won't. Good. It should be so. It was a simple process. to snap and replace the adapter. They work fine. They are…

Runs on battery only!

I really like this product so far. It's loud enough to hear throughout the house, and it's aesthetically pleasing! One question I asked was if it would work with just a battery and all the replies said it was hardwired and the battery is only for backup. Well, it works fine with just one battery. I didn't want to invest a lot of money wiring in a location that I might have to change if the fire chief doesn't like where I put it. There is no annoying noise with it, only on battery power, it just

Great for garages

If you drive a gas powered car and park it in your garage, you and your family should do it for yourself and your family to get this heat detector and install it in your garage. As with many residential garages, most of you park 20 to 40 gallons of flammable and explosive gasoline right inside your home. We still have a car that's on fire with gas and this little voice told me to take it when I stumbled across it on Revain. It took me less than half an hour to connect the detector and install…

Pros
  • Handy item
Cons
  • Minor problems

I thought I said I like it. No, I didn't get it for free. I've put it in a garage where I'd like to know if there's a fire, but a smoke detector isn't practical because every good man's den is filled with smoke, fumes and dust from the men's activities with engines, tools and other stuff is. Take our word for it. You shouldn't go there. In any case, we don't want the garage in the man cave to catch fire (well, it happens sometimes, but quite randomly, and we basically put it out in time and try

Is the job safe?

The heat alarm in our garage, over 6 years old, started beeping at regular intervals. It is connected to the electrical system. Changing the backup battery twice didn't help either. I replaced the alarm with this new device and it no longer beeps. This device is intended for a garage or similar location where something common (car exhaust) could trigger a smoke alarm. I first opened the garage door to let in daylight and then turned off the electricity in the garage. I unscrewed the old block…
