Good quality. Ease of use is suspicious (sorry)

First, if you get this device to work with all your computers, the quality will be excellent. but that's IF you make it work. I purchased this item to use for live streaming my Bible studies. I had piano music that I recorded live on my phone. I wanted to stream this music from my phone as background music. So I needed a USB capture card that would allow me to plug a 3.5mm cable into my phone's headphone jack and then connect the capture device to my computer via the USB port. Sound easy? Well,

Great budget audio recorder

This is a great budget audio recorder. We had some old audio cassettes that we wanted to keep in digital format. After looking into hiring this service, we thought we'd try doing it ourselves. I would like to point out that this involves disabling any antivirus software on your computer in order to install the software found on the hard drive. Just remember to turn your antivirus software back on! After we connected the RCA cables to our cassette player, the software did the work for us. We…

Hmm it's not stereo out

If you look at the attached picture this is what the VTOP device captured in Audacity. It may look good, but only one RCA cable was connected to the source. If it were recording true stereo, you would only see the ripples from one side. This means that VTOP captures both channels and then combines them into a single mono audio stream and plays them back on both channels. When you wear headphones, both ears hear the same thing, and it's not stereo. I thought for a moment maybe there's something…

Ideal. You can now record through the headphone jack.

. I have an electronic drum kit and it has a headphone jack. My laptop only records through the headphone-mic combo jack and only through the mic channel. I was hoping that this device would solve the problem and it really did! I plugged it into the e-drums headphone jack and connected the USB to my computer. The computer, Windows 10, recognized the device. No driver installation required. I opened my burning software and it just worked! Love it!

Pros
  • . Don't waste too much time.
Cons
  • . Not bad.

Simple, easy, works immediately!

My Tascam US-144MKII has been "locked" by Tascam due to recent Mac updates so I can no longer use it. So I need to digitize my old audio cassettes. I already have a Sony Walkman Professional with a good line signal. I have read a number of reviews and it seems that people are rating this item lower because they rely on free recording software like Audacity which is not compatible with Catalina. But I don't use Audacity. I have been using SoundStudio for many years. I also use GarageBand so I…

Effective and useful

The device explicitly converts sound. I haven't had much time to use this device, but I've seen it work from enough sources on the internet to recognize it as a quality product. Of course there are other products, but they are too expensive for a student. For now I'm hoping to use it with an old reel to reel or turntable. Most of the music or audio from these days CANNOT be found on the internet (unless someone puts it up somewhere, of course). I find passion in that. Thank you again for the…

Analog output to USB input works great with Audacity on a MacBook Pro.

Works great. I didn't need to install any software to use this. Running Catalina 10.15.5. My MacBook Pro would not let me select "Stereo Line-In" from the headphone/mic combo jack. Or digital audio from the internal "mixer” bus. In Audacity it just showed the "built-in microphone". as input. Audacity recognizes this V.TOP device as a stereo input source (PnP audio device). I could record audio from any website and save it in just about any audio format imaginable. If you're hearing it through…

Works as advertised!

I admit I was a bit skeptical about how well this product would work. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the digital recording. My only reason not giving the product five stars is that the software is a little quirky and requires trial and error. You must download separate software (included) to convert digital files to MP3 files. In the end, I was able to convert the old tapes to MP3 files that uploaded to my iTunes library. You sound good.
