Who needs a plumber

For $20, this is one piece of equipment you should always have on hand around the house. It's pretty simple, but it's possible to do it manually or with a drill press. I had to modify mine because the end was too big to fit through the kitchen sink drain due to the design of the drain. I used my factory vise to make the end smaller and it worked fine. Some tips: 1) Loosen the thumbscrew and manually propel the auger down the drain, working back and forth while negotiating sharp turns orโ€ฆ

Sewer snakes are good for drain snails

I used this today to get out a clogged laundry tub so figured I might as well look through it. I really think it's worth paying a little extra for one like this to connect you all with one drill. It makes working in tight ducts a lot easier and if you're doing something light or your drill's battery dies, it's still working by hand. a bit cheesy - but not that it had any reliability issues or anything, and I've used it a few times. On the other hand, it is quite light and does not rust. It isโ€ฆ

Be careful. in drain augers

This little drum auger clears small clogs that are halfway down the drain. But here's the rub: it comes with a thumbscrew (which secures the snake as the drum spins) that screws into a cheap, very easy-to-break plastic nut. Click on the image and it will enlarge the image so you can see it better. The thumbscrew/nut is the Achilles heel of this thing. Be careful not to overtighten the thumbscrew or the nut will splinter. And if you're using an electric drill, don't let the thumbscrew cut intoโ€ฆ

  • I vaguely remember

Supposed to clear two clogged drains: one in the sink, one in the washing machine. Took about an hour and totally worked. That's a lot better than calling a plumber, right? Tips: - A clog can be much further down the drain than you thought. I was expecting it to be in a J-socket but it's actually at least 5ft into the wall, for the washing machine I used the full 25ft. - After unscrewing the screw at the top, the cable will be lost for about 2-3 legs, put it in the drain, tighten the screwโ€ฆ

Not professional quality but job well done

The small extra cost, the extra five feet of this snake, and the ability to attach a drill were worth it. Works easily with a cordless drill/driver. This tool needs to be used with some care and probably not in a pipe larger than 1.5 inch diameter. The drill stopped spinning (I pulled the snake out of the drain too much). This created some permanent kinks that could only be partially corrected. It still worked but needs more attention now. If your drill has torque control, set it to the minimum

Good product for some drain clogs

This is a good product for larger clogs in sink and tub drains. I've also used it to unclog clogs in 4" main drain lines that lead to the street (assuming the clog is within 25 feet of that line). A lot of people complain that the Serpentine bends too easily, but that is ONLY true. unless you have the drill you are using calibrated to the minimum speed. ANY KITE CABLE will twist if you set the drill to maximum speed and then pull the trigger with full force. Kink: (1) Set the drill setting toโ€ฆ
