Not consistently good for salt and pepper

I bought this pepper grinder for a friend 6 months ago. I will try to get my money back but the black paint has chipped and cannot be used as the paint is peeling off and looks like pepper even if you wipe it with a damp cloth. For the price it should have been better.

Pros
  • GOLS certificate
Cons
  • Weak set

Ignore the reviews about the top not unscrewing!

We've only had it a week so can't speak on durability but there seems to be a lot of negative feedback on refilling the grinder. You don't unscrew the top! It is simply removed and put back on after filling. The screw on the top is for decoration only, so it cannot be unscrewed.

Pros
  • Well built
Cons
  • Communication with seller

The best pepper grinder I have ever owned

Excellent grinder. The steel mill works great. The degree of grinding is the same for each of the six settings. Each turn of the knob produces enough pepper. Lifting handle makes filling easier. (The steel nut on top is decorative only, not functional.) Many thanks to Cole & Mason for an excellent coffee grinder at a very reasonable price.

Pros
  • So far so good
Cons
  • A long time ago

Looks great, can't be filled.

I thought the reviews and descriptions here and elsewhere would justify the price although some comments on the knurled nut could be problematic it has been pointed out. It was a problem and it only took me two minutes to realize it was coming back. No pliers are ever needed for this, and that didn't work either. Clearly rubbish on this part, although the sanding part looked great and pretty accurate. I wish I could try that.

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Some small things

Literally life changing

I'm new to the (apparently very active) ground pepper community. Before that, I used a $5 universal pepper grinder that was non-refillable. I found this out after buying peppercorns for refills, otherwise I'd probably buy the exact same thing again. But thank God I didn't! It changed everything. I love to cook and I do it 7 days a week. I used to feel compelled to add pepper, but now I want to do it. The grind allows the peppers to stand out when cooking, or choose a finer grind for garnishing.

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • No machine

Good start, lousy ending (hope it gets better!)

It started out as a great pepper mill. Customizable, attractive and good all round. It even came with a modest amount of peppercorns. When I tried to add peppercorns today, I couldn't unscrew the top screw cap. Even with a screwdriver on the bottom held by my wife. Everything was for nothing. I would give this a 5 star rating if it was reusable. If only the sample of peppercorns hadn't arrived, I would have returned them immediately. Unfortunately I missed the return date by 5 days. I hope that

Great old fashioned grinder with modern ease of use

I already liked the Cole & Mason Derwent pepper mill but I'm not a modern person and I wanted a more traditional Peugeot mill look but with the ease you get with Cole Mills & Masons. The problem I had with my Peugeot coffee grinder was that the tip that controls the grind at the top kept moving while I was grinding and it went from fine grinds to large chunks. The Ardingly has a great vintage look that even Julia Child would have liked, but is upgraded with the removal of the "handle"-like part

Pros
  • Quick change
Cons
  • No mold required

Great pepper grinder! - Pepper Mills

My husband gave me a short, squat silver colored pepper mill with a mill handle on top. He was "sold" by this "expert" in Sur la Table. Awkward to use and bloody refueling - which OFTEN is! He was impressed, I wasn't. I've seen reviews online that say this Cole & Mason pepper mill is one of the best for the price. Bought for my husband a few years ago. Everything was as promised, from the ease of filling to the ease of setting the adjustable grind, actual grind, looks and quality. It was all…

Works well affordable easy to fill good quick grind

I've been using a very poorly designed pepper mill from a big store for many years so I decided to toss the bad pepper in the garage and buy a good one. Cost wasn't really an issue as I use the grinder with every meal. I chose this pepper mill because of the bad reviews of even the most expensive pepper mills on Revain. I like this design a lot more than the old model that used a screw at the top of the handle to adjust the tilt. THERE IS NO SCREW ON THE TOP OF THIS GRINDER FOR ADJUSTMENT. The…
