This is a very poor design for a jug filter system. The upper part must be completely drained, otherwise the water from the storage tank will come out together with the filtered water. The amount of water you can filter with each fill is pretty small. I keep topping up and checking to see if the bottom tank is full. If it is not full, the filter will dry out and have to be shaken.
