DANIEL SMITH 284055011 Watercolor Transparent Review

I'm a beginner at watercolor painting. I use Arches paper which is expensive so I can experiment with this product and know I can 'fix' mistakes. After it's completely dry I lightly sand down the brush marks before repainting. Very easy to do. I love this product.

I apply this primer with a sponge on a stick (for stenciling) to coloring pages (they don't take watercolors well), cardboard, notepad pages (two pages at a time because of the dry season), and Albums for pencils (two pages each). I even mixed some silver iridescent mica powder into this primer to add a shine to the surface of the page (edited). I attach thin sheets to the panel before applying this primer to minimize warping.

Works magically on my pre-coated canvas sign. The surface now looks like watercolor paper. For best performance, let it dry for at least 3 days. I tried to paint on the surface 1 hour after applying the primer and noticed chalk particles on my brush. While it worked, I didn't like the "chalky powder" on the surface. So let the surface dry completely.

As a watercolor painter, it is not easy for me to correct mistakes in my pictures. I can lift some color but not enough to completely eliminate the error. However, Daniel Smith's Watercolor Earth works brilliantly. The first time I used it was to cover a lake that just didn't look right. I like it! It completely changed my understanding of watercolor materials. Wood? Canvas? Old magnets? Everything can now be used for watercolor! Apply with a flat brush, allow to dry and sand lightly to level, and now your previously unpainted surface is ready to beautify! Colors can bleed over the edges in more detailed parts, so you'll need to be careful and practice before jumping into something huge. I paint with large 3x4 inch watercolors and would like to try painting on something other than white paper. I primed the wood panel with clear plaster and then this clear watercolor primer - I recommend letting it dry the full 48 hours as it takes the watercolor better than 24 hours. Also experiment with how you apply it: use a brush to leave the lines of the strokes and the roller gave them a more jagged texture. It doesn't have the porosity of paper and feels more like plastic (acrylic based)

A quick and easy way to turn cheap colored paper into traditional watercolor or ink using a wet brush. I wanted to use my playtime to hone my initial watercolor skills instead of relying on crayons or markers. But even books intended for watercolors curled up and got dirty from my harsh treatment.
