I like them better as surface protection when bringing a hotplate to the table. I typically wash these types of DIIs in lukewarm water followed by a gentle drying cycle and have had no issues with them shrinking too much in the past. However, they may need some ironing after washing.

These are lovely towels - prettier than I expected and they add a nice touch to my kitchen. They are soft, absorbent, easy to wash and dry. They're thick and big enough to quickly dry a few dishes, but not so thick or big that they're unwieldy. In the product description these towels are described as everyday kitchen towels but I buy this type of towels more for decoration purposes. I buy fairly plain terry towels for a real job to clean up the mess in the kitchen, but I always buy at least one set of "fancy" towels for every holiday, and I'm also happy to find patterns that are fun for the rest of the year.
