Stopped working after a week

Worked fine on first use. A week later it stopped working with the same drive. He doesn't seem to be getting any strength. Tried several power supplies and none worked. The drive and power supplies worked with a different docking station. I do not recommend this product as it looks very bad.

worked once and not again.

Used it in IDE and it worked fine. I turned everything off at night and when I came back the next day I turned it on and nothing. It spins the disk but my computer doesn't recognize anything. I even tried with another hard drive and same thing on another computer, hard drive just spins. Tried a new USB and still nothing. piece of trash.

That does not work! suitable for computers and accessories

with Windows 10. I connected a 3.5 inch IDE drive. The device connected to this computer is defective and is not recognized by Windows." Repeatedly turning power back on and reconnecting the USB gave the same response. Then I connected a 2.5" IDE drive. At first I got the same message After a few attempts to unplug and plug the USB back in, the USB drive showed up in Windows Explorer, but when I click on that drive, I get the message "Please insert the drive into the USB drive ( Q:)". Still no…

Works great in Computer & Accessories category

I bought another similar box that only connected SATA drives, it worked 1 time and when I switched drives it failed. I then bought this little gem and was so happy that it would not only work with my SATA drives, but also with my old drives that I salvaged from computers in the late 80's. As others have said, the cables are short, but I think the manufacturer intended this to be a drive recovery tool rather than a daily hot-swap of hard drives. It's better to use a hot-swappable case for that…

A good deal, but some fiddling might be required.

I plugged in the power supply of the first one I came across and immediately started smoking. There are no problems with the exchange. At first I couldn't get it to work on a 40GB 3.5" drive from a recently crashed PC, but it worked fine on the 2.5" drive I had. I ended up connecting the 3.5" drive to the old PC's power supply to power it on and set the jumpers as the master drive to be able to read and restore the information on the drive. If all of that doesn't put you off, this is a handy…

Remove pins from IDE drives before trying.

I have tried several times to use this item to transfer data from old IDE drives to my current computer. After several attempts I gave up. The drive turns on and spins, but does not show up as a drive or USB device. Waited too long to try. Happy. Be careful. There are IDE hard drive docking stations that are rated better by users and are only slightly more expensive. Update/Correction: After further research with these antique discs, I found out which pin configuration hoops we jumped through…

Fits almost any hard drive with a pair of brackets

This adapter works great with almost any hard drive. It's so comfortable I bought two. Having used this on 20+ hard drives there are a few things to note. You must turn on the hard drive before connecting the USB cable (about 15-20 seconds). This gives the hard drive time to spin up. With newer SATA HDDs and SSDs this is not so important. This is required for older IDE drives. There are adapters for connecting solid state drives to a USB port. This isn't one of them. Power MUST be on for…

Don't use a USB 3.0 port for a 3.5 IDE hard drive

I give 4 out of 5 because there are no instructions (other than the obvious how to connect in the picture). While it's a fairly basic device and works well, I've had issues with older IDE drives. I got this from a lot of my old hard drives between 1998 and 2014, especially the 3.5" IDEs, which are a bit trickier than the others because they need extra input power (which is included). The 12v adapter may have a 3ft cord. So if you unplug the surge protector on the floor or something like that…
