Low Cost & Quality . . . Excellent Results!

I'm often the first to complain about low quality tools manufactured in China but I have to admit, this crimper works quite well. I used this tool to make literally dozens of crimps to assemble three dual-battery systems with solar tie-ins and inverters on 4WD expedition vehicles. I used marine-grade ANCO tinned-copper fine-stranded wire from 2 AWG to 1/0 AWG with ANCO tinned copper lugs. I was impressed with this tool's operation and the appearance of the crimps. The biggest disadvantage of…

Pros
  • Perfect tool for large crimping. It is easy to use and makes a solid crimp.
Cons
  • It requires a lot of force to crimp even small lugs

Crimping tool for my opinion

Did just what I wanted it to do. four stars because it probably wouldn't last if I had more cables to fix. That's my feedback.

Pros
  • This tool is perfect for electricians, DIY enthusiasts, and anyone who needs to make secure electrical connections
Cons
  • The crimping jaws are not aligned properly

One Ape to many. - my new review

I have aped one too many lugs with a punch and hammer but not any more. This thing is awesome, two medium blows with a heavy hammer and done. The impression left by the tip of the tool is in the shape of a square that extends almost to the edges of a 4 ga lug; it's much larger imprint than other crimpers that I have seen. A++

Pros
  • works good it would be great if they made this to make your own hydraulic hoses in the future
Cons
  • It's difficult to find replacement dies for the tool

Finally used this, this past weekend. Re-did all the copper lug connections on my diesel. Crimped 1/0 and 2/0 lugs with ease. The slider gets hung up a little after a couple good whacks. Have to say its so much easier than vise grips or hitting the lugs with a hammer by themselves.

Pros
  • It's made with high-quality materials that resist wear and tear
Cons
  • The handle slips easily when crimping

sturdy and works great!

this product works amazing!i have used it many times so far and it shows no signs of being used at all!a very nice feature is the spring lock, so you can set your connection iside it and the spring holds enough pressure so the connector doesnt move, another great feature is it isnt very loud as i would have expected it to be, i was in my echo chamber basement the first time i used this and it made less noise then when i coughed, so that it nice that it doesnt sound sound like striking an…

Pros
  • It's versatile and can crimp a wide range of connectors and lugs
Cons
  • The tool is not suitable for heavy-duty crimping

Simple and effective

It is simple and it works. Just beware of the oil on it for corrosion protection. You will need to clean it off before using or you will have a mess.

Pros
  • Crimpers
Cons
  • The insulation crimping part is too wide

Tight crimps for my opinion

I think this thing works great. If you're not happy with the first smack, carefully line up the indents so it hits in the same place and smack it again!

Pros
  • Spring loaded
Cons
  • The tool is not multitasking

Works for crimping heavy battery wire connections

I used this to put copper terminals on heavy gauge wire and it crimps great. Used a dead blow hammer. Put on heat shrink tubing and it looks perfect!

Pros
  • This tool is easy to use even with one hand
Cons
  • The handles are prone to pinching your fingers

I was not entirely surprised by the poor finish on this tool based on prior reviews, but one would think that they'd improve it after so many comments to that effect. That being understood, it does appear to be a heavy duty piece of metal with sturdy workmanship.I have not had occasion to use it yet, but expect it will perform well based on design and build.I may end up modifying it [as I often find myself doing], but I probably won't refinish it unless it rusts, because for me it's more about…

Pros
  • It's perfect for making electrical connections that are safe, secure, and reliable
Cons
  • The ratcheting mechanism can be difficult to engage

This is a great little crimping tool

This is a great little crimping tool. I am in the process of rewiring the battery bank in my 5th wheel camper and installing 4, 6 volt batteries, solar panels and all the associated wires. I used this crimping tool this weekend to build 2/0 battery cables and it worked like a charm. A solid surface is required (I used a concrete patio) and a firm blow (2 1/2 # blacksmith hammer) and I double crimped each connector. Crimps were all solid and secure. I would definitely recommend this for the…

Pros
  • This tool is easy to maintain and clean
Cons
  • The tool is not very durable in general

Cheap way to make up your own cables

Cheap way to make up your own cables for car audio. Also made up cables for battery shut off switch on trailer. Even used this to crimp aluminum crimps for security cables.

Pros
  • The Forney 57637 Lug Crimping Tool is an affordable and practical alternative to more expensive tools
Cons
  • The crimping dies are not very durable and need to be replaced frequently

Don’t hit your thumb with the hammer

Awesome tool! I want two of them in case I misplace it ! One hit wit a hammer and it’s just a great tool. Time saver! Reasonable in price! Simple by design and Well-made works perfectly.

Pros
  • The Forney 57637 Lug Crimping Tool is lightweight and easy to carry around
Cons
  • It's hard to adjust the crimping dies

works great for making battery cables for inverters and rv house battery banks. I have only used on 4 awg cables but worked great and I'm sure would do much larger fine

Pros
  • Easy to use and inexpensive. Perfect for occasional use
Cons
  • The handle is uncomfortable to grip

If you are looking for 'Made in America' this isn't it.

The product info proudly discusses "Forney Industries is one of America's longest operating family-owned metal working product companies."I guess nowhere does it actually state 'made in America' - but kinda inferred such. Opened the package and was immediately dissapointrd at the finish (part of the black finish was chipped off or not applied), then more disappointment came when I saw the big 'CHINA' etched in the metal on the back.I probably could have called to complain and received one that…

Pros
  • Crimps cable lugs from #6 American Wire-Gauge (AWG) to #3/0 AWG
Cons
  • The crimps are not consistently strong

Battery end crimper.

Had to build a bunch of battery cables for golf carts, this little crimping tool worked great. did over 50 cable ends and it worked every time no problems. (Tip). Use a large hammer 2lb or better a 5lb, NOT a framing hammer (Don't ask me how I know)

Pros
  • The Forney 57637 Lug Crimping Tool is versatile and adaptable to various types of connectors
Cons
  • It's hard to crimp multiple lugs in a row with this tool

Revainrating 5 out of 5

great little tool for the price.

Out of the box, the unit was heavier than I expected. The casting isn't pretty, but the finish was good. I've only used it to crimp two cables, but it worked perfectly. I wish there was a way to attach it to something as holding the cable in the end while keeping the crimper upright while swinging a hammer can be a bit cumbersome.but the spring helps. I read that it's reversible, I didn't try to change the + to - (I heat shrink my ends).but that's a nice feature. I would recommend this to the…

Pros
  • Nice heavy duty tool, does what I need it to do. Better than using the vice to crimp.
Cons
  • The price is too high for the quality of the tool

Solid cheap alternative to expensive heavy duty crimper

I am just a hobbyist who was doing some of my own car audio electrical upgrades so I didn't want to pay a large sum of money to crimp 2 or 3 connections. I found this and it seemed like a good alternative and I was right! It takes just a little bit of getting used to but if you have a solid base (I used a concrete porch that was lifted off the ground) this thing will make a good solid crimp. The only reason I deducted a star is because the lug likes to move around a little bit on the first hit…

Pros
  • The Forney 57637 Lug Crimping Tool is precise and easy to adjust
Cons
  • The tool is not versatile enough to work with different types of wires

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I truly wanted 5 stars.

It works. I was hoping for a more professional looking crimp. It seems like it could have better crimp profile on tool. Made 10 wires up no issues. It is worth the money. Heat shrink covers crimp anyhow.

Pros
  • It's an affordable and reliable tool that delivers excellent value for money
Cons
  • The tool is not intuitive to use
