Wonderful. The real problem solver

Well made, solid, close to the drills. Let me give you an example of what I can do with it. I drilled 3/16" pilot holes in 3/16" steel for hinge pins in a car door. I made a hole 1/16 inch from where it should have been. Impossible to fix this with a hand drill. The end holes are 1/2" in diameter, so I had a diameter to work with. I lined up the edge of the 5/16" pilot hole with the edge of the existing hole and clamped it. This offsets the centerline by 1/16 inch. I put a 5/16" drill bit…

Great tool - punches

Yes, they're expensive, but I've never been afraid to spend good money on good tools. Of necessity they must be strong, hardened and heavy lest the drill bits shear metal resulting in the lack of real guidance. I have a drill but no centering device. I picked up a couple of these in place of the centering tool so I could have a portable tool if I needed one when I wasn't at the shop. I have absolutely no regrets for posting $$$. They match perfectly with the Heavy Duty Line Adjusters I made…

Big Gator pilot drills worked well for me

I had to drill and tap two holes for 3/8-16 screws in a hard steel ball joint that was too big for my drill press. At first I tried hand by eye and failed miserably. I bought a set of two drill guides and tried again. I attached the pilot drills (I used both pilot drills) with a C-clamp. They worked fairly well, keeping the drill bit perpendicular to the workpiece. In my case they would work better if they were twice as wide to make it easier to keep the guide perpendicular to the workpiece…

Expensive but great dowel guides

I bought these in addition to buying a carpentry dowel jig separately. I use a dowel jig to center the hole on the board's end grain, then use spikes to transfer the centers to the opposite side. on the second part perpendicular to the tree and the right angle for the joint. They work very well. I determine the position with a point drill, then fasten these guides in place and then drill the hole to the correct depth. I bought a kit with the full range up to 1/2" as some of the dowels I use are

Durable, saves time but overpriced.

These drill guides are as solidly built (and made in the USA no less) as they are useful for taking the guesswork out of drilling, especially when working under time constraints with expensive materials that need to be done quickly and correctly in the first place once. When it comes to precision and control, they will never completely replace a power drill or more precise devices. But for drilling and tapping on the fly and getting into tight spaces without disassembly, these little guides…
