Works great if you cover the entire surface

Works as advertised. I used it for charcoal. The medium stuck to the surface just the way I wanted it. Extremely efficient, flexible. I would give 5 stars if it dried completely. It is mostly transparent but dries almost white. The only way to work with a translucent white surface is to leave soil in those areas.

Create a pastel finish / recycle an old one!

Highly recommended* for other pastel colors. This land essentially allows you to create your own interface. If you're like me, it's easy to get a little obsessed/fussy about the type of pastel paper you use. Not only can you create your own pastel finish, but as many people have said, you can recycle old artwork - on different types of paper/canvas - and use it for pastel as well. All packages arrived in perfect condition and carefully packed.

Nice texture, suitable for colors

I use this as a primer for charcoal and pastels. Applied to mixed media paper with an old, dirty credit card, it gives a nice texture. (It's a little grainier than Liquitex Clear, but works well too.) I always have a few missed spots, so it also adds fun and interesting value changes when I apply dry medium. (I rub the charcoal in with my fingers and my fingertips might hurt a bit due to the sandy bottom lol, but I do it anyway and then switch to a cloth or brush when needed.)

Does NOT dry clear.

I bought this because I saw it used in class and wanted to experiment with pastel instead of watercolor. It was easy to use, with a wide opening for inserting a shaker, but it didn't dry out. I was disappointed because the teacher said in class it dries clear. I should have taken a closer look at the container. It dries with a slight milkiness and I can feel it contains a hint of yellow which dulls my watercolor underpainting. No problem if you cover the entire surface in pastel, but a shame if

This is amazing! In the months I've been looking for an alternative to the very expensive and affordable Uart sandblast paper that I love, I just couldn't work with the cheaper Canson and Strathmore, I need pastel sandblast paper but they are too expensive. Someone recommended this product to me not long ago and I'm happy. After applying a thin layer it looked like pastel paper sanded by Uart. It has an excellent tooth and holds many, many layers of pastel. Initially I found it too rough, but…

I really like this product and it does what it's supposed to do but I didn't find it much different than using the Liquitex Clear Gesso. The texture is very similar. I have used this product on a sheet of watercolor paper and clear plaster on separate paper and I have hardly noticed any difference. Ground for Pastel and Clear Gesso save you money on sanded pastel paper purchases. I also tried watering the gesso and adding some soil and it didn't make enough of a difference to do it again so…
