abominable! Bended and twisted immediately on test run

We took it out of the box to test it and the moment my husband (165lbs) stepped out the window the ladder flexed and twisted. If I hadn't held him up, he would have fallen out of the second floor window onto the ground. Terribly unsafe and incredibly disappointing. I'm so glad we tried it before we ever needed it.

For single use only? for safety reasons

I ordered this ladder because I thought we could do a fire drill with our grandchildren, the youngest of whom suddenly got scared of fire. I would *never* have ordered this if I'd known it was a one-time use! It is quite difficult to practice climbing stairs, which is good only once. This information must be CLEARLY stated in the description! Needless to say I sent it back.

Safety is the top priority.

As a firefighter, this was one of the first things we bought after moving into our two story home. There's just no reason not to invest in something cheap enough to save your life. God willing, you won't need this device, but you don't want to be in a position where you need it and don't have it. I recommend at least 1 on the top floor of your unit in an easy-to-reach location. This ladder is well made and easy to deploy when needed, so even kids can do it if left at home and the worst happens.

Ouch! Random use with UPDATE

Well like almost everyone else I was wondering if this ladder could be repackaged after use (for example so you can practice). Well I guess I'll find out because mine accidentally unfolded when I hung it in the closet. I will post an update later. UPDATE: Revain is amazing. They replace my stairs. It looks like the ladder could be repackaged, but not with much certainty. I haven't practiced with it because at my age I don't like the risk/benefit ratio compared to a concrete road. I don't mindโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Packaging is ugly

Since September is Disaster Preparedness Month, I thought it wise to practice climbing stairs with the family. Since this is primarily the children's part of the house, children aged 18 to 11 practiced climbing up and down. Yes it's a bit shaky, yes it works. Important note (and reason for 4 stars vs. 5 stars)! As you can see in the picture, the metal edges of the steps are sharp and will cut into the wall of your house when going down, resulting in paint damage and puncture marks on the houseโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Fireproof, strong and durable folding ladder
Cons
  • Almost never

Worth adding Fire safety device

I bought two of these for extra security. I have three children and all of our bedrooms are 3 stories above ground and there is no roof between them so we can escape in case of a fire in the house. I hope we never need them but I am very happy to have them in our rooms should we need them. Unfortunately, my children are too small or too small to lift and assemble these ladders on their own, but I know that for years to come my eldest should be able to use them herself if the need arises. In the

Can save a life if you live in a two story house!

A family in our area recently died from being unable to leave their two story home. My husband is a fireman and he was one of the people who found the family huddled by the upstairs window. It was one of the saddest things. They were mom and dad and two kids. The stairwell in their house burned down and they couldn't get out. If they had a fire escape, they might have survived. After my husband got home from this call he immediately ordered one of these from Revain. We recently moved into a two
