3/8" hex drive plug cutter. Hardened steel for long life. Tight fit; no glue needed. Plug cutter fits in quick change chuck in a drill press. Tapered sides and a chamfered end for easy start.
I got this along with a set of countersinks from Snappy - I was able to countersink a couple of screws on the bottom of the serving board and then hide the holes with custom plugs. This worked fine for me. The plugs I cut were a little flimsy, but that could be due to an application error and low mileage on the drill. Not looking for a stealth fit, I was happy. The nut burned a little, but as soon as I reduced the speed of the press, everything became normal for me. I am a hobbyist and yourβ¦
This guy works great! I had to cut some end caps for the Cumaru soundboard (Cumaru is a Brazilian hardwood that has a lifespan of over 50 years, but that's another story). I tried using a cylindrical cork cutter, but whether I cut fast or slow produced more smoke than cork, and when I made a cut it looked more like guinea pig dung than wooden cork. The first thing that struck me was that the surface was rough and didn't have the matt or semi-gloss sheen of other wire cutters I've had in the past (and it is on the photo). Little white hailstones stuck in the cracks, as if they hadn't been cleaned before packing. I'm wondering if the last step of the manufacturing process was skipped. When I first started using it in my drill press it seemed like it took a lot of force to work with wood. It also screamed and banged. I sharpened the bladesβ¦
