I use this on a small chest to prevent kids hands from touching my stuff. For that it works fine. However, the shackle *barely* fits into the body of the lock - I'm surprised it locks at all, but it does. Definitely not a "safe" way to lock up valuables. I bought this lock for lockport purposes so I didn't need to repair anything on it. However, I would not choose this lock for securing things for two main reasons: 1. It only latches on one side of the shackle2. I can decode it without tools. The decoding method is very simple and quick: pull the shackle and turn each dial in turn, feeling resistance in the dial and shackle. The last dial can be hacked. Yes, they are inexpensive and the ability to change the combination is very convenient, so use them. I don't use them to protect my gold, just to make people look where they shouldn't be looking.
