1 Pair of Monoprice Open Screw Type Speaker Banana Plugs with 24k Gold Plating Review

Nicely finished with good materials but not as durable as I had hoped: no diffusion barrier between gold plating and component copper cases. All gold literally disappeared from most exposed surfaces within a few months. The manufacturer had to pre-plate the product with an interlayer of nickel to prevent this problem from developing in the field.

These are two simple banana plugs that screw the top end onto a loose wire to capture it. (Black) as I thought the wire would last longer if I used these connectors instead of a bare wire that can be hooked in and out. My only issue with them was that I ordered two pairs and although one pack had a red and black ring the other pack had two black rings. Slightly annoying but I can't complain and am sending them back. I just used a marker to put a black mark on the "black" black ring.

After carefully fitting them to the connectors on the back of my amp and speakers I have to say that when the side steel spring is depressed it doesn't hold. keep loose in shorter, shallower nests verrrry. That's half expected. Just not much to dip into. However, the jacks on my amp are deeper and while they hold "ok" they aren't as strong. It's not like it falls out, it just "moves" a little. I've had some problems recently with a new receiver (Marantz SR5006) which I suspect are caused by intermittent shorts in speaker wire could. Access to the rear of the receiver is difficult, so I preferred to solve the problem in one session, using banana plugs on each wire, eliminating the possibility of a short.
