Does not work on switches and relays

Purchased and installed Feb 2017 to replace a suspect device that was 18 years old. Fast forward to February 2019 and that's bad. You should have left the old one alone. I bought another one as my mechanic said they were the best on the market, but I was very disappointed that they only lasted 2 years, warranty or not.

Pros
  • Easy install
Cons
  • Secret

Be careful with replacement parts

Installed and worked great on day one. The next day I smelled something hot and smoke was coming out from under the hood. Luckily nothing caught fire. Replaced by aftermarket from O'reillys, all is good. Maybe it was just defective because I always thought a motor boat would be a better substitute. The money was returned on time so no complaints.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Almost never

Works perfectly, quick installation.

The part was almost identical in shape to the standard. The only difference I noticed was that the original said "Made in USA" while this part said "Made in Mexico". While this part fixed the problem I was having with the car, I can't verify how long it will continue to function properly. The original part failed at 65,000 miles after 16 years. Everything is fine at the moment.

LOW QUALITY! the best in switches

ATTENTION BUYERS! LOW QUALITY! I installed 3 of these last year. Luckily I know how to install them myself, otherwise I'd be paying a mechanic all the time. They were under warranty, but the fact that the first two failed under warranty shows how poor the quality is. Tried to contact Motorcraft - apparently customer service is low on their priority list because they don't provide contact information anywhere. The only email address I could find was from another Motorcraft department and they…

Don't buy this, look for a reliable alternative.

Bought and installed due to cold weather starting problems. Well that never fixed the problem and I assumed there was something else going on with my truck. I checked today and it's not working, looks like the relay is energized when voltage is applied to the coil but no voltage is applied to the glow plugs. I bought a cigarette lighter voltage reader and a USB charger and it became clear that the glow plugs are not interacting with this relay. I manually jumpered the main relay terminals and…

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks

Don't waste your money

I put one in my 2002 7.3 liter F-350 and it failed in less than two years and 10,000 miles. I replaced it with a White Rodgers 586-902 with 200 amp contact rating. I don't know the DY861's wattage rating, but I've seen photos of the pins in one of them and I doubt it could be rated anywhere near 200 amps. You can find White Rodgers 586-902 at Revain for about $25 more than the DY861 and cheaper elsewhere. Note: The White Rodgers is larger than a Motorcraft piece and is slightly more difficult…

The cheapest on the web.

I took a closer look and decided on a Motocraft part. There were cheaper glow plug relays and more expensive relays. I used an aftermarket brand on the first solenoid failure about 90,000 miles and three years ago. I chose the Ford brans because they lasted more miles and more years. I was overwhelmed by the overpriced solenoids from the local parts stores and even O'Reilly wanted more for their Motocraft relay. So thank you Raven. There was a heavier option for more money, but the gear was…
