Quilter's Dream: Sewing

I was having trouble unwinding the thread on my long arm quilting machine and the thread caught on something while unwinding. This grid is just what I need to keep threads on and off my machine in check. The only thing is the cost: I think it's a bit high for a mesh. But I needed it and love the handling, so I would buy it again if I had to. Although there is enough here to make cocoons for many thread cones.

Pros
  • Finally bought
Cons
  • Long delivery time

This product will stop all those stray ends.

The net is a long tube that can be cut to size. Since I'm using a spool of thread, I cut a 2 inch piece and covered the spool before returning it to my rack. Although the seller says it is possible to sew with the mesh on the spool, I have not found this to work at all. I look forward to getting the thread off my wall stand without getting tangled up in another thread unwinding from the spool on top of the stand.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Pleasant Rest: Thread & Floss

I have two types of this net, the one I bought at the Viking store and this one. The mesh from the Viking store has a smaller mesh, but I don't recover very well from stretching. I can stretch this material very far and it still shrinks instantly and wraps the spool tightly. Eventually, to put on the roll, it regains its correct size, but it takes a while, it's an instant recovery.

Pros
  • Elegant Design
Cons
  • Questionable Purchase for the Elderly

Good for what it was designed for.

This network is good for what it was designed for. As I go, I'm learning how much mesh to leave on each spool. I've found that for my standard spools I have to leave a small mesh at the bottom to cover the opening so the mesh doesn't come loose when I place the spools on the spool stand. Personally, I don't use very large bobbins for general sewing. I use giant coils for my surgeon and haven't tried meshing them yet as these coils are kept in a drawer.

Pros
  • Excellent design
Cons
  • Legacy model

Great for rolls without a built in gripper

Great price. Comes in one long piece so you just cut off what you need. MUCH better than buying a small pack when you have a large assortment of embroidery floss. MUCH better than rubber band getting tangled and rotting. Remove the screen from the line when using the bobbin. The thread is not fed from the inside. I would not use thread net on spools that have their own hook like many newer spools. The spools in the photo probably don't need filament mesh. But I have a lot of reels without a…

It is great. Recently someone pushed me to use them.

They are great. Someone recently got me to use them with my elastic thread on the loopers of my serger and the dog quickly ate one after a kid ripped it off. This material is better than the original. The one on the left is this product, the one on the right is the one that came with my serger. You can see it tightening above and below the spool, preventing the line from falling down and getting caught. I replaced the original on both loopers and they work great. I also used it to keep my…

Sewing nets Spools of thread

Item is as described. This thing is necessary for everyone who has a lot of thread. Especially if they do not have a closure base on spools of thread. I use this item for embroidery thread spools. Many embroidery threads don't have a spool holder, so they're particularly useful for preventing thread from unraveling from the spool. They are also extremely useful when using embroidery floss. You can leave them directly on the spool so the line can be pulled off the spool with the correct tension…

Pros
  • Super price
Cons
  • Large and bulky

The Real Deal

When I got my machine and started my first project, I didn't initially think I would need a spool net. Then, after the third color change, I got really tired of changing the one fabric that came with the machine from roll to roll. I decided I needed enough mesh to at least cover all the coils I would need for a project. This can be 23 bobbins or more depending on the details of the embroidery. This pure material is usually sold in packs of four for several dollars a pack. It was expensive for…
