I use it everywhere.

As the name suggests, I use this material everywhere. Wherever there is a fluid fitting, Permatex thread sealant goes there. It absolutely prevents any leakage, especially with coolant fittings, prevents corrosion and abrasion, saves threads and makes subsequent disassembly much easier. It doesn't heal instantly so you'll have to wait a bit before using it, but the end result is totally worth it. As far as I know this is a must have for any engine job.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • Good but not great

Function and Expiration OK

I'm a DIY enthusiast so I only need items like thread sealant a few times a year. I have used this high temperature thread sealant successfully on oil pan drain bolts, rear differential bolts and Ford AWD drivetrain bolts. I'm just following the directions and I haven't had any leaks. Once opened, I keep the tube in a bag in my unheated garage, exposed to 4 seasons of weather. The opened tube stays usable for over a year, although I have to knead the tube to restore the smooth consistency. Good

Pros
  • Top marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Unbelievable price

Excellent quantity, price and product GM crosses 12346004

Excellent typical Permatex quality you will always get. The dealership sells a small pipe for 6.50, this large pipe covers about 23 oil pan bolts and 10 timing cover bolts, and there's plenty left over for the next project for a little more than the small pipe, which will probably run out before 10-12. Bolt. Tick on GM 12346004, see the permatex site, they have a mfg cross reference table which is another reason I love them. SMALL CHILDREN

Bye bye teflon tape!

Say goodbye to Teflon tape! I stopped using teflon tape a few years ago after finding this. A small amount will do for you, so don't overdo it. With teflon tape, something stuck when tightening the connector, making it difficult to tell when something was tight enough. In doing so, you give it a slight drop and tighten it as in any other case. The healing time also seems to be pretty good. I tend not to follow the T directions and only use the air system a few minutes after applying and haveโ€ฆ

Works Fast!: Sealant

So I had to buy this because it had the fastest delivery and my work truck broke down at the military base and security was NOT happy it was sitting there with the dead fuel pump, I did threw it in the AN fittings on my lunch break with my new pump, only got to let it cure for about 3 hours and it was installed and ready, drove it about 1000 miles before use and no drips or leaks that you usually get with other sealants and I am very happy with the product. This particular tube size is actually

Good old reliable 592

There are several similar thread pastes available from Loctite/Permatex (parent company of Henkel). These are 565, 567 and this 592. They all work very well with different cure times and bond strengths. 592 is the easiest to find. A comparison of 592 with "regular" thread compound with PTFE (Teflon or equivalent) shows that this material performs much better. This material contains a "hardening" ingredient that takes time to fully harden, which is not found in most carving pastes. Until curedโ€ฆ
