Very happy with the results.

Quickly and without too much time, an ounce or two of cheese turned into a rich, beautiful mound of crumbly grated parmesan. I want to give this item more than 4.25 stars because this item is about the size of a rolling pin and takes up a lot of storage space for an appliance I think. However, I don't know if the length is needed for the correct lever, but I would like it to be the same, just two-thirds the size.

decent quality. Best for home cooking.

Bought for use at work. Broke after 3 weeks of use. Used almost every day. In the course of the day. The wide surface made it easier for me to micro-shave the larger piece of parmesan, instead it slipped and broke knuckles like the narrower micro-slicers. It did the job though! Surprised it lasted so long. Probably not the best option for commercial kitchens or restaurants.

Pros
  • A dream come true
Cons
  • Big and chunky

Save your skin!: kitchen and dining room

Our 10 year old Zester Microplan finally ran out so I took a chance on replacing it. It's cheaper than the Microplane brand, but the final cost was a hoo for me. This thing is sharp enough to do real damage but blunt enough to be dangerous. It takes an incredible amount of force to keep it still while grating/grating, and that amount of force makes it easy to slide with the food. Just dangerously boring and unstable. Wouldn't recommend it. Spend the few bucks more on a better Cester and save…

Why You Still Need a Good Microplane

Actually, this product is fine. It's sharp, its external dimensions and design are almost identical to my old Microplane. BUT the pictures don't lie. It doesn't produce as thin a peel or grated parmesan. For most needs this will be great. Unfortunately, if you want your citrus peel to really disappear while you're cooking, you'll have to pay a bit more for a real micro. Mine is getting boring and now I paid $8.99 for what I'm giving away because it's no different than the extra long I bought…

Tradeoff between security/quality and speed

Very aggressive fingers. Getting to the peel on a stick of Parmesan is scary, like failing, and the knuckle is fried. Why miss you ask? Because the tines are so aggressive, they grab hard cheeses like parmesan and your hand keeps working without the cheese. Likewise, grating the butt of a whole nutmeg is difficult, if not impossible. I have owned/used zesters from other well known brands that do not have the same problem. Finally, the problem resurfaces with citrus tasting. Too much pulp with…

Great for grating ginger

Received two days ago. I tried grating ginger and found it did the job well. The blades are very sharp to the touch, so DO NOT cut yourself! The grip is solid and the anti-slip part on the other end does its job very well too. I would advise you to only hand wash it as knives and the like inevitably lose their sharpness in the dishwasher. However, be extra careful when cleaning by hand. I have some objections to the "blade guard" design. I have no idea why two large oval holes were left on it…
