Great latch for my opinion

When you need to keep that hitch hiker you abducted locked in the cellar and look stylish doing it. This lock can't be beat. Sturdy, works smoothly and quietly. Which is a big plus for those late night feedings.

Pros
  • used for a internal door for a dog door. Had to combine a 10" with a 4" to make it work.
Cons
  • The price is too high for the quality of the product

No tension spring: my feedback

This item says there is a tension spring in the latch to hold the bar but there is nothing to keep it in place. The bolt does not work well with doors that have a gap.

Pros
  • Looks great and is a lot less expensive than others.
Cons
  • The bolt does not work well with doors that have a gap

Looks Great, Bad Springs

Used this as a bolt to create a Dutch door. Reasonably easy installation and all hardware included. I was disappointed however, in the springs that are supposed to keep tension on the bolt. After just a couple of days they have fatigued and so the bolt will not stay up/open against gravity. It greatly increases the likelihood of someone closing the top of the door and damaging the bottom because the bolt is sticking out. Also the receiver plate is about 20% bigger than the bolt. The upside is…

Pros
  • Item was as described
Cons
  • The screws do not fit correctly and easily strip

It seems strong enough, but some of the design choices they made are disappointing and result in this being annoying to install. As you can see from the photos, the bolt slides through two retaining lugs instead of a single piece, but you can't remove the bolt during installation because each lug has a tiny metal flat-spring (so that the bolt doesn't rattle around when in use) that's held in place by the pressure of the bolt resting against it - remove the bolt and those flat-springs fall out…

Pros
  • Very nice 30 sliding bolt that’s what I wanted. Simple but very nice
Cons
  • The bolt rattles loosely and does not stay in place

This is an attractive Dutch Door bolt kit, however it could be improved with adding a felt liner to be installed in the bolt receiver so the upper door does not rattle loosely about. I added a glued in felt stopper that holds the bolt snug and the door opens and closes solidly and seals properly from top to bottom.

Pros
  • Hardware
Cons
  • The bolt's design is outdated and does not match modern hardware

Adequate but not completely ideal for my Dutch door

This ok, and it functions, but it wasn’t the easiest to install and it’s just adequate for operating my Dutch door. The clips that provide tension to keep the latch in place open or closed needed to epoxied in place or they fall out, so the design is far from perfect. When the latch is open the latch pin tension is just ok to keep the pin in place. No directions provided.

Pros
  • Install was easy shipping was next day worked perfectly very happy
Cons
  • The bolt is too bulky and detracts from the appearance of the door

Worth it, sturdy: my feedback

Matched well with existing cast iron hardware, used just the slide latch part to keep a kitchen island drawer from opening due to weight. Works, looks great, priced well.

Pros
  • Heavy duty, feels hefty, I like that it is solid brass, should last a long time
Cons
  • The bolt is too easy to unlock from the outside

Needs Improvement!: my feedback

The quality of the product is not in question. The major problem is the throw of the bolt, it is ridiculously short when used to close 2 closet doors. I modified where the set screw on the bolt meets the stops. Works beautifully, and the bolt still cannot accidentially be removed, which is the function of the set screw.

Pros
  • Screws would have been nice.
Cons
  • The polished brass finish easily scratches and tarnishes

one minor issue on my review.

just what I ordered. I used it in a vertical position at the top of the interior door. the bolt was sliding down by itself due to its own weight. I removed the friction springs, bent them to have more camber and friction, and it seems the bolt is not sliding anymore.

Pros
  • Door Hardware & Locks
Cons
  • The bolt is prone to rust and corrosion over time
