Fragile construction and when you reach for an item and pick it up to carry it to you, you're more likely to grab and lift a glass mug from its holder than bring everything with you. Because it's not just one crate, but several pieces put together, there are many corners where dirt collects, making cleaning more difficult than it should be.

I love this salt server so much that I bought a second one. I've been using this server for several years to keep Himalayan salt handy at the stove. Meanwhile, my kosher salt lay in a less convenient jar. I finally decided it was time to buy one of those kosher salt servers and I'm very glad I did. This salt shaker is well built but it took me two modifications to use it. Using silicone glue I glued the glass bowl to the metal base so I could grip it not only by the handle but also by the body. I also cut a thick rubber disk and glued it to the base. which is hollow at the bottom to give it extra weight and prevent it from sliding across the counter. With these two mods, this is an awesome salt container. The spoon that comes with it is very small and I haven't found a use for it.

My lid is not attached to the pinball machine. Stored separately in carton. I can't figure out how to attach it. I saw a review on YouTube that showed the lid seat was welded to the folding handle. I don't know what to do with it now. Lots of repackaging issues and $23 returns. Just a warning to other buyers. I would give it one star but I don't like the word "hate" especially when associated with an inanimate object!

I bought this salt server over 5 years ago after being advised by famed Food Network chef Alton Brown. It's pretty enough to keep on your stovetop or counter at all times.
