As others have noted, the switch slots are held in place by very thick plastic and cannot easily be cut out with a rotary knife. My solution was to use a very small drill bit and drill a few holes around the perimeter and then use a rotary bit to gnaw through the narrow gaps. Once that was done I had the right size but with a torn edge to be safe. I was then able to use a sharp knife and cut the hole to make it relatively smooth. Most importantly, this part will meet your expectations. It replaces the left pillar trim on my JKU with another piece containing four blanks that can be cut to accommodate the switches. It sticks out further than the original fairing to have enough room to accommodate the back of the switches and wiring. Now for my list of complaints.
