I came across this pen while looking for a heavy writing instrument. I wasn't looking for tactical characteristics. My goal was to write with a solid pen. However, I like this pen for what it is: an unobtrusive (i.e. unobtrusive) tactical tool that can definitely be used as a weapon. It's heavy, strong and solid. I lost my makeshift Gerber pen a few weeks ago and wanted to replace it. I'm very glad I looked around and found the Schrade tactical pen. Very good handle. I had several Parker parts waiting as some of the other reviewers suggested and the pen writes beautifully. I'll order a pack of gel refills and just see how they write, but the standard refills are working well so far. It's a firm, sensitive pen with a good weight. The clip is very strong so it won't slip out of your pocket. I haven't had a chance to use it for self defense and I hope I don't have to.
