Excellent product for fish and aquatic animals

A must have for the serious aquarist. Much better than activated charcoal. Do not leach contaminants back into the aquarium.

A much better alternative to activated charcoal when Purigen is not available.

This is much better for planted aquariums and never seeps into the water. Activated carbon can sometimes leach phosphate back into the water, which can lead to algae outbreaks. Because it never leaches anything back into your water, you can always use it as a substrate or additional biomedium when it stops absorbing.

Perfect for an aquarium with plants or discus

I have used many Seachem products and they have all proved extremely effective. Renew is no exception. This filter material is an excellent alternative to activated carbon. The only major benefit is how this medium handles phosphate and pH in a plant or discus tank. Traditional activated carbon eventually releases excess phosphate back into the water column, disrupting nutrient balance and potentially causing algal blooms or other problems. Renew is much softer and thinner than carbon.

I purchased this in January 2015 for my first 30XH gallon planted aquarium. Due to the fact that I bought a used Fluval G3, I needed a material that was compatible with the chemical filter module; Renew was the clear winner.
