I do not recommend this for 2019 Mac Pro 7.1

I do not recommend this for 2019 Mac Pro 7.1 I have a lot of Sonnet stuff. I think they are a great company with great tech support. This is my first disappointment with Sonnet. Electrically this card is fine. The problem is that the ports are too close to the edge. I've tried 6 different USB-C cables including one from Apple, all of which failed due to the tight fit. I found that if I tilted the card a little, I could use two of the four ports. See attached picture. If the ports were just 0.05

Pros
  • Absolute Legend
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options

Didn't live up to expectations

I want to say that this product is the best after sliced bread...but I can't. Unfortunately, it has serious flaws. I was trying to transfer some large video files between some Samsung T3, T5 and T7 portable SSDs. Whenever I've used the computer's built-in USB 3.0 ports, files have been transferred with no issues. But in situations where one or both hard drives were running through this device, the SSD would just turn off, turn off. Sorry but there are no benefits.

The Mac Pro has few ports, but it's fast.

Beware of Mac Pro upgrade users. It is great. I really like it and the speed is much better than the Startech variant I initially had. In any case, a warning. I put this in the second PCI-E slot from the bottom to make the most of it and haven't tried it anywhere else because why should I care? If he didn't want to work where I needed him, I wouldn't leave him. USB-C ports are arranged low. So low that I had to cut out the metal bezels because the three USB-C cables I had didn't fit. It was a…

Good card and worth the money.

Works as intended. Fully plug and play. I'm using a Windows 10 desktop computer and needed a second USB Type-C port, and that was just before the number of USB Type-C peripherals skyrocketed. So buying this card was a very good choice. I don't know about the port speed as I don't use it for external storage. - I have a Thunderbolt 3 expansion card for these needs. (Gigabyte Alpine Ridge card.) For those wondering, Gigabyte motherboards that support the Alpine Thunderbolt 3 card are a separate…

Cons

Perfect fit for Mac Pro 5.1

Instead of buying new Apple systems, we "upgrade" older Mac Pro 5.1s to make them last a few more years. This USB-C card works natively with Mojave. No drivers or fiddling required. Enjoy the higher transfer rates now possible.

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Annoying

Great way to upgrade any desktop

Cons: The card is quite expensive. $130 seems like too much for a couple of ports. There are many things to like though: the USB ports are actually faster than my old built-in Type-A. Oculus Link works great. When using an external Samsung T5 SSD, the reading speed is 554 MB/s (probably limited by the SSD). I was a little concerned that the ports were far out on the side (rather than centered). It's an odd design choice, but thankfully it wasn't an issue with any of my cables. They all fit…

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • May damage

Worked great in my Old Mac Cheese Grater.

I have a 2010 Mac cheese grater and added this to the expansion work I did with it. The first device I connected was my Android phone and using the MAC/OS Android file transfer app I was very happy with the file transfer speed as well as the ability to charge. Did exactly what I needed and left 3 more ports to add future devices. Went like clockwork!

Pros
  • Regular price
Cons
  • I won't say anything

More like USB3.1 Gen1 than Gen2

With this Sonnet card I only get 600MB/s up and down while my Highpoint 1344A has 850MB/s. Dual SSD Raid0 (2x Samsung Evo 4TB). I have tried both bus powered and power supply. Are you sure it's USB3.1 Gen2?

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Not bad

Does the job - computers and accessories

Bought because I needed more USB ports than were available on my motherboard and so far it has worked great on my Linux PC. It is defined as a USB controller named "ASMedia Technology Inc. Host Controller". ASM2142 USB 3.1". (The same part is used on other USB PCI-e cards). However, I haven't tested the speed yet.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Neutral
