💪 Get Enhanced Performance with Standard Motor Products SS581T Solenoid Review

I bought this solenoid in January 2016. Installed it yesterday and encountered the same problem that others have reported. The terminals are permanently connected internally and the starter will operate as soon as the cable is connected. The standard must have had a bad batch in early 2016.

I spent 20 minutes installing this junk and applying 12 volts to the coil which wouldn't turn on. Do not buy this product, it is rubbish. Take Cole-Hersee's Solenoids. They are exponentially better. If you found this review helpful, please rate it.

I read reviews about it and 27% of them said that the starter started turning as soon as it was connected to the power supply. I said it must be an abnormality and ordered an injection. What a BIG MISTAKE! When connecting, that's exactly what happened. DO NOT ORDER THIS DIRT.

The magnet has been defective since receipt. Carefully! Connected to my car and the starter started turning immediately, luckily I disconnected the coil otherwise the engine would start and the starter would stay on. I double checked all my wiring and finally used the meter to test the system. Solenoid stuck closed (energizes starter when energized). Spend your money at a quality auto parts store.

Buyers beware. What cost about $11 could have cost me at least $100. I put these on and then connected the battery clip and the car started with no key in the ignition. I also had the starter running while the engine was running. I quickly disconnected the negative cable and everything was fine. I thought I connected something wrong, but I was right. Fits my size 68 perfectly and as soon as I got it it started up quicker than it has in years. I also replaced the battery cables and ring terminals on all the smaller cables while I was there. Voltage problems probably damaged your magnet in the first place. So before you complain about a durability issue, you should do the same. Also check your battery. The T series is the cheap version of SMP and it shows. The solenoids arrived on time. I put it in and the starter started on its own as soon as the ground was connected. Keys off, all circuit breakers were off, and he turned around. I guess I checked it with a multimeter and the relay is stuck in the closed position meaning the S pin is doing nothing and the STARTER pin is always hot. Reading the reviews I realized what I had ordered. It was easy to install (it's a solenoid so not really that heavy). Engine started and it started normally. Tried to turn off the engine but couldn't. I had to disconnect the battery to stop the engine.
