Few of us want the best, here is the answer

This is a prestigious instrument. Who pays $100 a square? Few of us who want the very best is the answer. I already had a Starrett combination tool with angle, square and center attachments. It had a 24 inch blade and I mostly just used the square drive. I ordered this short square starrett simply because it complements my longer starrett and is a more comfortable length. The attached photo shows both the long and short Starretts on my shop wall.

Precise and well made.

Replaces the old cheap square aluminum case that has worn down to stainless steel after use. I was worried that the steel body would be too heavy, but it's much thinner than the aluminum body, so the weight difference is minimal. All surfaces are ground so it's much more accurate than cheap squares that still have flight marks and big bevels. This one has a smooth stainless steel blade, I would recommend a satin finish instead which is much easier to read. I had a spare in the protractor so I…

It's Starret! on measuring and marking tools

This Starrett 33H-12-4R square is typical Starrett quality. The square head is well made and the square fits my reference perfectly. The rule is smooth and satin chrome plating. The edges of the ruler are of course machined, not punched. I can work continuously with this square and not have to worry about cutting my hand on the punched edge. The head also fits my 18" and 24" Starrett range, allowing it to do multiple things. I admit that I own several Brown & Sharp instruments which are also of

Big square but glare makes it difficult to read

What can I say, this is a Starrett. According to my surface plate, the ruler is absolutely straight, accurate to within 0.001 inch on each edge. The ride is smooth and stable. The head is perfectly aligned at a 90 degree angle. The only thing that bothers me is that the glossy surface is difficult to read. I know Starrett has a lot of options and I could choose this one but this was very good value for money. So I have no reason to complain. exactly for this reason next time.

  • Before shipping your unit will be data calibrated with a new NIST traceable calibration certificate

  • Some errors
