Very impressive! for Layout Tools

Solid metal strip. Outstanding accuracy. I'm deducting a star for three reasons. 1) It would be really nice if Starrett remembered to make two oblong holes in the center for easier handling (like the groz I saw at my local Rockler store), it's a lot easier to close the edge hold without worrying about slipping off your hands. 2) The finish is rough. It would be nice if it could be polished a bit. But for others this may not be a problem. 3) No protective cover? With an instrument of such…

Yes, only 3 stars in Straight Edges

This is supposed to be a "precision" gauge. However, Starrett wraps it like bubble gum. I had to return the first one I received as it fell off at some point and one corner was creased. This is most likely due to the Starrett packaging. The Model 380-36 was packaged like a pack of chewing gum with an inner paper sleeve and a similarly shaped cardboard box on the outside. No pads, no foam, nothing. There isn't even a "handle with care" label on the outside. If they don't treat their product…

I was surprised when the package arrived, the box felt like it had lead in it. But when I opened it up, it was the straight edge that weighed so much. This item is heavy and was packaged well. wrapped in a kind of paper soaked in liquid oil. I've been using my powermatic model 64A table saw for 10 years and thought it was set up straight and sharp.
