Precision-ground head with 90 and 45 degree faces. 6" combination square with hardened scriber and spirit level. Measuring tools have working surfaces ground to a demanding +/- .00001". Easy-to-read satin chrome surface. All rules are marked with 1/64", 1/32", 1/16", and 1/8" graduations.

You have to pay for the duration.

I've tried the cosmetic 2nd version of PEC but it's not as legible as the Starrett due to the different finish and doesn't pinch due to the cosmetic 2nd version. It fits perfectly in my front pocket and the slide is perfect. It's expensive, but I don't think the end result will ever be better than my measurements when it comes to layout tools. Even for an amateur, there's no reason to master tools at random unless you're creating projects for luck. Harbor Freight for hammers and wrenches…

Does a fair amount on the shelf, just don't use it.

Rubbish. I've been using this square in my shop for a little over four years and today is its last day. The bubble level is broken, the recorder won't stay in place (which is driving me nuts) and is rusty. I can fix rust, I really don't need a spirit level, but I do need a scribe and I use it. Unlike cheaper models that have a threaded scriber, the guys at Starrett have chosen to use an O-ring or something similar to install the scriber. Throw this thing too many times and it will go away. Is that real Starrett or a fake?

Not sure if this is authentic. See photos. I've used Starrett squares in the past and they're pristine, but the one I recently ordered from Revain really wasn't of the cutting edge of workmanship or quality you'd expect when buying a $95 combo square . The square itself had some manufacturing issues and wasn't really flat as you can see from the photos. You can see a lot of daylight if you measure it from the true plane. For some, this is negligible, but some of us require more precision. It…
