Works well, but runs hot

I bought it to work with my M1 MacBook so that I can use a second external display. It works fine for that, but it gets hot enough that it's a concern. This is a 24-inch DELL panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz. I returned it for a Thunderbolt dock of the plugable brand, which has USB-C PD and DisplayLink and runs much cooler (at least externally ). In order to say it clearly, I used Startech products beforehand and never had problems, and the heat that arises may not be a problem…

Pros
  • Good processing
Cons
  • makes me angry

Works well, that's the secret for multiple displays on M1 Macbooks

. The last one confuses me the most, but the battery life and fast performance worries me less. However, this unit allows me to add a second external display to my setup, which I very much prefer. You have to install the drivers, but this experience is seamless. The only downside is that the Apple Watch integration with the MacBook suffers while the display drivers are active. Has something to do with the screen recording being present. I hope they fix that and the lack of support for multiple…

Pros
  • . Don't waste too much time.
Cons
  • Good but not great.

Current configuration: 11-inch MacBook Air (mid-2013) with 1.7 GHz i7, 8 GB RAM, Intel HD 5000mac OS X 10.11.32 x 30 "-Displays (2560 x 1600) Before I used the Startech USB 3.0 to DisplayPort (USB32DPPro) and the second monitor was fine, but it was A bit delayed. I mainly used it to set hardly used windows. So I decided to try up on this adapter, and I can say that I am much, much happier. that the update is much faster than before. Not quite as fast as it is directly, but much better. I would…

Pros
  • Practical item
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks

First, it works. I have two monitors open while my M1 Air is closed on desktop. Yes, you need additional hardware for this: I have an OWC hub. No I haven't tried experimenting to find the minimum hardware to make this work. I will not return it. It works well enough for me for what I need to do. Daniel Compton's post on DisplayLink and M1 Macs has details, but: The DisplayLink solution doesn't quite offer the resolution, color management, and responsiveness you'd expect from a Mac. My color…

Impressive. I am incredulous! Great.

I bought this card thinking it was a USB 3.0 external graphics card that does 4k so probably lots of jitter and good for basic web browsing, word processing, never video. I also never expected it to work on an ultrawide 4k display - I'm even more shocked. I can't believe I'm saying this - on an ultra-wide UHD display with a resolution of 3440 x 1440 from an Intel i7 laptop with 16 GB of RAM already pushing 2 standard 4k displays, I was able to watch a video without any noticeable lag view full…

Lets my M1 Macbook Air use two external monitors

The M1 Macbook Air natively only supports one external display, but this adapter allows me to use two (one connected to USB-C, one connected to this DisplayLink adapter ). The software works quite well, the monitors remember where they are etc. Aside from the one-time installation of the software, which was easy, this thing is totally plug and play. I actually had an issue initially where the DisplayLink monitor refused to wake up after going to sleep even if I unplugged it and turned it back…

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • For retirees

Works with Macbook Pro M1 Big Sur but has hiccups and limitations.

Use it with MacBook Pro 13 M1 with display mate software driver on Big Sur 11.1 and 11.2 with two external 4K 32-inch BENQ monitors, but there are many annoyances. A monitor is connected to the CalDigit 3 monitor via DisplayPort, i.e. Apple native mode. The other connects to a USB-A 3.0 port on the CalDigit T3 via the HDMI port on the Startech adapter. Startech's HDMI port has limited scaling options so can't use my favorite 3008x1690 scaling, will have to go for either the full 4k (3840x2160)…

Gave me the third monitor I needed on the Mac Air M1

I have a two monitor Plugable Dock but wanted to add a third. I wasn't sure if this is possible on a Mac Air with M1 or with this dock. The Plugable Triple Display Dock is out of stock so I decided to give it a try based on reviews saying there was a possibility of three. I also ordered a USB 3.0 expansion hub to give me more USB storage space as well. I plugged this into one of the new USB ports and. it worked! I almost couldn't believe how easy it was! I am now very thankful that the three…
