Description of Topcon RL-H5A Horizontal Self-Leveling Laser

MULTI-PURPOSE LASER: Grading, excavating and general construction projects are perfect applications for the RL-H5A. With the IP66 rating, the RL-H5A is "job site tough" and can withstand dust, a sudden shower and even torrential rainfall. EASY TO USE: With electronic self-leveling, you press the power button and go right to work in seconds. If the RL-H5A gets disturbed on the job it relevels itself automatically. The self-leveling motors are accurate to ±10 arc seconds. LONG RANGE WITH HIGH ACCURACY: Need to shoot elevations up to 800 m from your laser? No problem - this instrument has the power and range to cover a 800 m diameter job site. KIT COMPONENTS: includes the RL-H5A laser, LS-80L or LS-100D sensor, Sensor holder, Batteries(Alkaline or rechargeable) and Carry case.

A decent device so far.

The lamp has a larger and brighter spot than my old CSTBerger lamp. It levels up quickly and is easy to use. I'm not sure if this is normal, but the spindle is noisy, like a scratching/grinding. Much louder than the CSTberger unit but I think they could be just that. I like the built in bubble level in the receiver mount.

The incline function is useless or maybe I'm stupid

The incline function of this device is analogue and has no preset incline gradients to choose from. You must have a known target distance determined at the laser level, and then lower the receiver the exact inch/cm required to match the desired grade. You can then proceed to set the drain/level slope. I bought this to adjust the incline myself but couldn't figure out how to do that with this device. However, super reliable build quality and accuracy. If you're doing level basics or have 2 guys,

Comes with LS-80L receiver only

Although the description says "LS-80L or LS-100D sensor" the fine print in the technical details says "with LS-80L- receiver and dry battery". . You only get the bottom receiver in this kit, but you can use another receiver if you buy it separately. This was my first disappointment. The LS-80L receiver works well but is unreadable in bright sunlight from any angle other than straight ahead. This is a real problem when the receiver is high or low when reading the difference in estimates. The…

Great laser. Topcon not impressed

Have owned this laser for 2 years with no complaints and everything has been fine. Weighed flawlessly every time and was a great product for the money. It was like that until the automatic alignment stopped. I contacted Topcon and took it to my local dealer for shipping. A Topcon technician contacted me and said that the cost of repairs would exceed the cost of a new laser and that none of the repairs were covered under warranty, concluding that the unit had been mishandled in some way…

The best ratio of price and quality!

I'm a general contractor, building and pouring concrete slabs and using a laser every day. For the money, the Topcon RL-H5A can't be beat at this price point. The next best laser in this price range is the Topcon RL-H5B. B has no gradients, A does, and due to the small difference in price between the two, A is the best value for money. I have used Topcon brand lasers for many years and have used other brands of lasers as well. The only two brands I would recommend are Topcon and Hilti. Whether…
