Took less than a day

Sata connection is defective. Installed the hard drive on Sunday, March 10th, 2019. On Monday 03/11/2019 the drive stopped working. I contacted Toshiba only to be told I was unlucky as they do not honor a replacement for this type of issue. How can a company expect someone to spend over $100 on a product just for it to last less than 24 hours? Had such bad experiences with a product like this before. Get out of trouble. Buy Western Digital or Seagate. Skip Toshiba. I will never buy a Toshiba…

Fast drive with good value/GB but ridiculously noisy.

I bought the X300 5TB for $129.99 so lots of storage for that price. It's as fast as any 7200RPM mechanical drive with 128MB cache but obviously can't keep up with my 4 SSDs. I needed more space so I replaced my 1TB Seagate Barracuda which I had never heard of in my entire life. My entire computer is pretty quiet apart from fan noise while gaming or video editing. Now this drive makes a noise when writing that I can only describe as an 80's printer (though not as loud). I remember my mechanical

Excessively noisy read/write from two hard drives; Both returned

I may have just received two bad hard drives but they both had the same overly loud read/write issue, much louder than normal for a hard drive - and definitely wouldn't walk my data trust one of them. Of course, all spinners are noisy to some degree, but even my roommate noticed how noisy my computer sounded after installation (and since I'm using it in a common area, the noise was particularly annoying). I replaced a pre-installed 1TB Toshiba drive so I had no problems with Toshiba drives…

Toshiba will not honor its warranty

I installed the drive and everything worked fine. About a year after using it, I started having data corruption issues. When removing the drive, the plastic covering the SATA data pins came loose, making the drive difficult to use. The SATA data connector was installed and removed like any other drive and was not forcibly removed. The plastic broke too easily due to poor workmanship. Defects can and do happen. That is clear. I submitted the drive for RMA via the Toshiba website and reported the

The drive had serious problems

When I first opened the box, I noticed that the tape sealing the drive looked like it had been removed previously. I'm not sure if I received the returned disk. Other than that, this is my experience with the drive. When I transferred my information from my current drive to this new drive, the drive initially transferred at about 160Mbps, but after about 2 hours the drive slowed down to a few Kbps. Eventually the drive completed the transfer (I let it run overnight), I could see my files but I…

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • A number of factors

I will never buy from Toshiba again if I can. I bought the X300 4TB and it seemed to work at first. However, after less than 2 months it started to run very slowly and eventually had reading and writing problems. In the end it degraded to a complete failure. After much troubleshooting, it turned out that the hard drive had a lot of bad sectors. Then came the RMA process, which I'm still struggling with. After initially using Toshiba's surprisingly inconvenient website, I started an RMA. They…

Multiple drives fail in EIGHT MONTHS

I bought two of these drives in March or 2018, they failed in October. I used one as a library of my important files and the second was a backup of the first. I didn't set it up as a raid, just made a copy of the floppy once a month. So while one disc was used continuously, the other was only recorded 8 times! Yes, I wrote a lot of information, but these drives weren't supposed to fail in less than a year, but both failed within a month. The used one started making loud clicks constantly. I…
