Lathe mandrel is great! But the shoulder trimmer is terrible! It's not very sharp, so it takes a lot of force to cut through hardwood. Worse, he's swinging like crazy. Bought this to finally start flipping handles. I love that it comes with end alignment bits and that it comes with a tailstock. My problem is with the mandrel itself. I'm really not sure how it happened, but the mandrel started to bend everywhere. It has never been hit, pushed without the tailstock attachment or whatever that would normally bend something like this. Once it started to bend there was no one around to fix it and my grips started to move away from the bushings a bit. I replaced it

An amazing combination of what you need to get started. Some instructions or video links on how to use it would be nice, but if you buy this you probably know enough to get started. I used it on my Harbor Freight 65345 lathe. Most importantly, when doing the same, remove the factory chuck mount from the headstock so you can set the tool rest in the correct position. I bought one of these sets and oddly my dad bought the same set for me for Christmas so I now have 2. It works fine and the mandrel is still straight after 10 pins were made . I have provided several photos. I'm new to pen rolling and really got into it. I mainly turn guts, vases, bowls and other small items and figured why not try pens. I liked that this package was mostly complete. A set of 7mm sockets, a drill and end bits, but after making 2 handles I see the following: The mandrel is not strong enough to prevent bending. My first pen came out nice, but the second wasn't as perfect. There is little difference from one site to another, leaving an uneven connection in the middle.
