🔑 Reliable Replacement Starter: TYC 1-06646 for Ford F-Series Review

I installed this starter about 1 year ago so my 5.4 must have fired about 800 times. During the installation I noticed that it runs a bit faster than the original. I was 100% impressed that it came with a quality and performance certificate detailing all the test measurements.

The worst junk I've ever installed. It has lasted just over a year on the f150 that I use occasionally, but if it were a daily driver the starter would not have lasted 4 months. And at the same time a double failure: he lost torque and barely cranked the engine, and when he cranked the bendix got stuck and rubbed the flywheel.

I paid my mechanic $150 to install a starter on my expedition July 3, 2017, with very little warning, the starter broke yesterday. Now you have to shell out another 400, but at least the mechanic has a 1-year guarantee and stands behind his parts. I took a chance with all the positive reviews, after all those positive reviews turn into negative ones.

I bought this for my 2005 F150 FX4 because of the attractive price. The first one I bought in 2015 lasted almost 2 years. The last one I bought in February just didn't work for me anymore. Now I only get clicks. Now he doesn't even try to start the car. Next time I'll buy a different starter, probably one that doesn't rely on "new materials" being the main benefit.

I've had this starter for about a year. It spins faster than OEM, but I bet that's because it's more efficient than OEM (more accurate winding geometry). I think cornering acceleration is a boon anyway as it helps build oil pressure faster. Not related to this starter but relevant. This was a big problem installing it on my Lincoln Navigator as the top screw is not accessible. It's like the design team is made up of monkeys, or maybe they are actual designers led by ignorant monkeys.

I seriously doubt buying such a cheap starter. But I read the reviews, saw the price and figured if it doesn't work I'll still be in the black. But that wasn't a problem as it was packaged perfectly, mounted right where my old starter was and was installed and ready within an hour of lifting the truck and removing the wheel. This was for my 2002 5.4 liter F-150 and if I have owned this truck long enough that I need another I would not hesitate to buy it again. Great product, great price and…

I chose this because 1 is cheap, 2 are brand new, 3 are not supercharged! I installed it in about 20 minutes, about as long as it took me to remove the old one. The only difference is that the starter has 14 and 10mm nuts instead of 13 and 10mm nuts. So no problem unless you have a 14mm jack. I installed this on my factory identical 2008 f-150 5.4 XLT and for $68 compared to a 169.00 Duralast or a 218.00 Motorcraft from local dealers, you can't beat it. Bought this starter through Revain for my 2006 Ford Expedition 5.4L. Perfect fit, direct replacement for the old starter. Received the starter today and installed it this afternoon. Definitely spins the engine faster than the old starter (Adv Auto Brand) before it stalls. Very smooth sound (no grinding, squeaking etc) and I love the final control that comes with it. Provides you with all the results of the final QA tests performed on the launcher.
