Edited Review: Traditional Laptops

I could go on and on about the differences between my first "portable" computer, the Kaypro 4 (Google it) and the GPD Pocket 2, and yes the differences are no small of amazing! At first I was a bit disappointed. The "optical navigation device" did not work on the first device. While this didn't completely shut down the computer, it took away one of the great features of the GPD. I have ordered a replacement. Interestingly, the technical department at GPD sent detailed photos of the ribbon cable

Pros
  • Slim Design
Cons
  • Long Delivery Time

Excellent product. I have problems with the microphone, otherwise the laptop meets my expectations. The keyboard layout is non-standard, so it will take some time to get used to it. However, I'm willing to make trade-offs for portability. If you have purchased a USB-C hub, you can connect a monitor and an external keyboard at home (or in the office). If you are looking for a pocket pc with full size specs, this is the best option available in February 2018.

Great PDA/UMPC for professionals on the go

Very high quality aluminum, looks solid and professional. The screen resolution is pin-sharp even outdoors in sunlight. It took a while for the initial installation, downloading updates and first boot, but after that everything is fine. The keyboard, while small and compact, is still usable, I was able to type 35 wpm on it. The operating system runs smoothly on most major applications, Office 365 is installed and runs clean. The battery life is very good, I can use it all day at work and then…

Battery below 15%? Get ready to wait an hour for loading.

If the battery level falls below 15%, the device will not turn on until it is charged to 15%, which takes about an hour. So if you leave it in sleep mode for a few hours and come back, you'll have to plug it in and wait a full hour before you can use it. And the battery drains while you use your computer with the charger attached. Therefore, after a few minutes of use, the computer turns itself off again. making it completely useless. And if you leave the charger connected while the battery is…

Great niche device

Firstly if I was looking for a GPD Pocket I would only buy it from LANRUO on Revain. They have excellent customer service - quick pre-sale email, follow-up replies on purchase, anything you need. You can find Pocket a little cheaper on sites outside of the United States, but be careful with the buyer. Guarantees, right of return are often questionable or non-existent. This is a delicate computer by definition and is best bought from a place that knows how to package and secure what they are…

The future you were promised

Very interesting form factor. The body style roughly reminds me of the aluminum MacBooks from 2004 when they had the best industrial design. This is exactly the future you were promised: a general-purpose computer the size and weight of a paperback book. The only thing that really let me down about this device is Windows 10. After waiting 5 hours for updates, I just turned it off and installed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on it, which only took 20 minutes. That being said, there are some features that are…

Frozen after 4 months due to battery

I really liked this little compact thing. when she worked. It's slim, compact, well built. Win10 on screen can be a bit hard to read depending on what you are dealing with. I edited it in Photoshop and it worked well, although the details were difficult to see. But. Last week I started getting "plugged in but not charging". errors. After much internet searching I found that this is not an uncommon problem on several different models. It seems to be related to Win 10. However, I have tried all…

I love this item but had to have it repaired when I received it.

This item is of excellent quality, especially considering how small it is. It has 2 problems but they can be solved. When I first got this thing it overheated easily and shut down. I disassembled it and found that the processor had an excess of poor quality thermal paste and also an excess of it making it dissipate heat poorly. Cooling isn't very good for this thing either. I fixed the heatsink connection issue and modified the fan to run continuously when powered on and now it works great.

Best laptop for camping

I bought this for camping and I really like it. It is charged via USB 5V, so any USB solar charger is suitable for charging. I can't comment on Windows 10's performance as I installed Linux on it straight away, but Ubuntu runs fine and boots in about ten seconds, give or take. It fits perfectly in my pocket so it's a big bonus for those who travel a lot. The battery life for a notebook is very good. From three hours of gaming up to 10 hours of watching YouTube videos. Some people complain that…
