I love this product

I love this product! I have one in the garage, pantry, master closet and on both sides of a stairwell (one of the other posts gives you the how to). Very happy.

Pros
  • Uses Advanced XCT sensing technology, offering the most reliable on/off performance up to 30 ft.
Cons
  • May not detect small movements or gestures

Didn't work right.

Could not get motion sensor to work no matter how I wired. Will stay on if occupied, but not turn on. Was unable to return, due to time between order and when I installed.

Pros
  • ‎MS-VPS5M-WH
Cons
  • Limited color options

Be acareful when substituting for two three way switches.

I was putting this to replace two three way switches. The switch location that I choose to install this. Didn't have the unswitches power wire.

Pros
  • like this device, It is saving me money.
Cons
  • It would not go off after sensing returned and purchased another brand

Very unreliable. Turns off as expected (after time interval after last person leaves the room) but turning on is very unreliable and works only 1 out of 10 times. The 3 way wiring is pretty complex too and you need to rewire the second switch as well. After you're done installing and the lights don't come up, there are many reasons why this can happen and troubleshooting is a pain. First of all, it doesn't respond within the first 2 mins after powering up. Than it could be that you need switch…

Pros
  • ‎No
Cons
  • Requires professional installation for proper functioning

Another winner from Lutron

It's a little quirky sometimes as the lights will briefly flicker just as they sense motion. It does keep the lights on though for the 2 minutes I've told it to then turns them off.The ONLY confusing feature of it is when you're testing it out, it does work as an occupancy sensor as well. I also own one of those so that freaked me out for a second. The wiring diagram and instructions were very straight forward and made it easy to remedy switching the two carrier wires when the lights wouldn't…

Pros
  • Wall Switches
Cons
  • Not compatible with all types of lighting

So-so, but low price

Easy to install, and very low price. The device seems a little finicky, so you might want to spend a little more and get something more solid.

Pros
  • ‎600.00
Cons
  • Higher upfront cost compared to traditional switches

Love these switches. Simple and powerful.

My favorite purchase in the past year. I put occupancy and vacancy switches in a few rooms of my house. Occupancy switches turn on when you enter a room and turn off when you leave. Think "small bathroom" or over the kitchen sink! Vacancy switches need to be turned on manually but turn off if no one is in the room. I added these to my kitchen. Easily set to turn off in 1, 5, 15, or 30 minutes. So much cheaper and simpler than home automation. They are simple to install and then they…

Pros
  • Light Switches
Cons
  • May not be user-friendly for some individuals

LOVE it. This is how you save energy

I have 600W of fluorescent lighting that the kids leave on occasionally for hours at a time in our basement. After installing a Lutron MS-OP600M-LA in my kitchen (which I also love), I tried this. I should have ordered the vacancy version for that one because only use it that way.I would order 15 more of these if they were more affordable. At 28 bucks, it will take 460 hours of folks each forgetting to turn off the lights to pay it back. That's probably a 5 year payback for me. If you have less

Pros
  • Simple, easy, low cost way to bring light automation to your home
Cons
  • No alternative power source in case of power outages

Vacancy sensor, not occupancy sensor!

DONT listen to all the low rating! Many of these people do not realize this is a VACANCY SENSOR, not an occupancy sensor. Its manual on, automatic off. It meets California title 24 codeIf you want a motion sensor switch, it is call a occupancy sensor

Pros
  • Enhance Safety
Cons
  • May interfere with the decor of some rooms

Works great, installation took 15 minutes

Works great, installation took 15 minutes, the instructions are very clear. THIS Is a VACANCY SENSOR so it won't auto turn on , when manually turned on, it does turn off when no one is around. The OCCUPANCY SENSOR which turns on and turns off automatically is the model number with OPS in it. Not what I wanted but going to keep it.The Test mode acts like an occupancy SENSOR but rests back to vacancy operation after the first 5inutes of entering test mode.

Pros
  • ‎Pole
Cons
  • No customization options available

Why are these things so complicated for 3-way installation.

Like most guys, I open a device and toss the instructions with the box into the trash. The instructions are absurd. The graphics do not match the device wiring, its all cluster together for multi-language. Its way too complicated for a stupid light switch. For a three way, you have to make an adjustment to the opposing switch. Why cant they make these things to be a direct swap, hot/load and two travelers.Bottom line follow the instructions and do not forget to wait a couple of minutes before…

Pros
  • Great for bedrooms, kid rooms and rooms with pets
Cons
  • May interfere with other electronic devices in the house

Very nice device, but not perfect.

This is a nice device, but not perfect. It has four time-on durations, which are somewhat limited (1, 5, 15 and 30 minutes). I would have liked to have also seen 10 and 60 as options. This setting can be changed with the switch cover on.It can be setup to turn on three different ways: (1) Motion on/lack of motion off; (2) Switch on/lack of motion off; and (3)Motion on if dark/motion off. The last one will apparently learn how dark you want it before it turns on. This setting can only be set with

Pros
  • Automatically turns lights off when room is unoccupied
Cons
  • Limited compatibility with remote controls

Sensor function doesn't work

I mean, it's still a light switch. But the sensor function doesn't work. I have the dimmer model of this and it works much better, but I was hoping to not have to buy dimmer bulbs. The sensor worked for the first day and then stopped functioning, but it still functions as a switch.

Pros
  • ‎3.2 ounces
Cons
  • Requires a neutral wire for installation

Works good but made of cheap plastic.

Works good. But the button seems to be made of cheap plastic. Not same quality as Caseta the buttom is too loose. Thanks for attention.

Pros
  • works well, though with a bit of delay
Cons
  • Didn’t work despite wiring per the instructions

Yeah, they really screwed up the in-the-box installation instructions. I'm an electrician, and I know everything there is to know about 3-way and 4-way switch wiring, and the installation instructions with the switch are completely useless, since the device is an electronic and not a physical switch. Seems like a non-electrician 'technical writer' put these together.or the translation was really lame. Please get real SMEs on staff! To get the real instructions and full wiring diagrams, refer to…

Cons
  • May not work with all types of electrical systems

Very disappointed!: my feedback

The box was open inside the shipping box. Upon taking the contents out of the box, I discovered that this was a previously opened item, with the bag of screws being cut open already. The gold plate at the top was also missing.

Pros
  • Meets California Title 24 and other sensor code requirements
Cons
  • Requires proper calibration for optimal performance

Poor installation instructions

I like the VACANCY Sensor but the installation instructions are just horrible. I am a licensed electrician and I had to go to the Lutron web site for help.

Pros
  • ‎Automatically,Off
Cons
  • Not compatible with all home automation systems

Love em and done a lot of them.

I've bought almost 100 lutron vacancy and occupancy sensor switches for all our vacation rentals. Wonderful money and time saver. I like that they are about 5/16" thinner than topgreener which stick out more and use about 1/8" more inside the box (can be the difference between having room and not having room to wire). It is flush on the outside compared to sticking out about 3/16" for topgreener. Does not require a neutral hookup like most top greener versions do. Does require…

only turns lights off automatically.

After spending a long time reviewing the information for this product, I did not understand that the "V" in the model number indicates Vacancy only. I wanted this sensor switch to install in my garage to turn the lights on when I enter and off after I have left. as it is, I still have to manually turn the lights on, but the switch will turn them off when it determines the area is vacant. I will re-purpose this switch and I have ordered the MS-OPS5M unit, which uses the sensor for…
