Installation was very easy, although the printed template didn't match.

I bought this to replace a quick release vise I had previously bought from a nationwide woodworking retailer. These vises are much more reliable in almost every way. Assembly was very easy, although the printed template did not match the actual screw holes in the vise. I also had an issue with two smaller diameter mounting holes than the recommended 3/8" bolt. I had to use 5/16" bolts. A more serious problem was the Rapid Nut node. The spring steel that holds the pin in the nut was broken when…

Eating is understandable. Get that vise!

Well I hate being a lemming but like others have said this is the best wooden vise I have ever seen. Mine even came with maple/magnetic cheek inserts! I don't think this is normal so call or ask before purchasing. I have to say I love everything about this vise. The quick open/close action is fantastic and the weight and quality is excellent, the entire face of the jaw slides up 3/4" and not just the small tab like most vises. but I don't see why the pivoting jaw should be removed at all if you

Excellent vise, one downside, mediocre price.

Excellent vise with solid features. Rotational damping is great for tapered parts, but just awkward otherwise. The design of the U profile rails is excellent. Durable, keeps debris out of the threads but most importantly provides more clamping space on the vise edges than traditional screw and guide designs. The fast-acting mechanism works great. No preference over lever release models but I expect this design to hold up better and break less. The only thing I don't like is that the top faces…

Great vise on bench clamps

I installed vise 63144 on a maple bench I built over 30 years ago. It bolts directly to the underside of the 3" thick bench. Since my bench is only 2" thick, I cut out a 1" piece of maple and glued it to the bottom. I decided to turn my bench upside down for installation and installation was a breeze. The vise is made in China so the fit and finish isn't as good as the old US made version, and it's also a bit looser. USA-made vises had an embossed WILTON logo and metal sticker on the front. It…

Helping hand. for terminals

Reviews were correct. Fast delivery, great product, clear instructions and installation was easy. No major problems. I had to remove some sand from the screw holes, which can sometimes happen with a forged piece of metal. The 3/8" x 3" screws were lightly tightened in the two front screw holes. Not a big deal, but in terms of quality, I was surprised that the inspector didn't check the screw holes. I installed an additional 2" x 4" under my bench so there was enough wood on the screws to attach

Great quick release

I can't put into words how much a good quick release is an absolute must in the workshop. Wilton is by far the best when it comes to what I need. First, my outdoor shop is in a high humidity area where everything rusts. These vices are covered in all necessary ways. The handle appears to be aluminum and the vise is mostly covered with a protective coating that also has a clear coat on top. I accidentally wiped some of the clear coat off with acetone but just recoated the poly and all is good…

good design; poor performance

The detachable swing jaw is handy for gripping odd-shaped objects, and the built-in pawl can be raised and lowered as needed. The U-channel prevents dust from entering the screw and provides a strong sliding mechanism. The first disadvantage is the excessive vertical play of the jaw. The movable jaw is in its normal position approximately 1/4 inch below the top of the fixed jaw. You can manually pull up the jaw to straighten it. If you don't do this, the jaws won't be vertically parallel and…

Lasts a lifetime!

My dad was a high school carpentry teacher and had 16 10" wide Wilton vises on 4 large benches for his students to use (and abuse). He bought them in the late 1950s and they have served him throughout his life. entire 35 year career plus another 18-20 years after! They weren't replaced until after the city built a new high school, but I'm sure someone still uses them to this day, LOL! I have the 7" version. those awesome vises, now I want to buy a 10" and will be ordering one like that. fool…
