Formal children's shoes? Not for this boy.

I carefully read the reviews. Putting on sturdy shoes sounded perfect for my 9 year old. We tried size 5 first, which is one size larger than his actual foot size. He said they were too tight. I sent them back and ordered a size 6. He wore them to school and came home with a big blister on his toe and complained that they were too tight and uncomfortable for him. So we liked the shoes, but they didn't fit my child's rather narrow foot. Also, one of the insoles was not properly bonded, makingโ€ฆ

Little Boys Sturdy Boots

Bought these shoes for my 9 year old grandson. He likes her. He wears them on hikes, to school, rides his bike, walks his dogs, and plays in the mud/mud/grass/small muddy places. If they are heavily soiled, they can be dry brushed. (He doesn't usually clean because the dirt doesn't bother him, but his mother does.) These are slippers, so his shoelaces don't hang all over the place. He only wears them. all fall and winter, and he'll outgrow them before they wear out. These are durable, well-made

Pros
  • Jump for Joy in the Jungle Moc!
Cons
  • poorly thought out

Great shoes! fits shoes

Edit! Years later we still buy them! These shoes are simply the best. My son was unhappy trying to fit into every other shoe I had ever bought for him until I found these about 8 years ago. Now he's 13 and these are the only shoes I buy him. They last 'til he outgrows them, they're waterproof, I buy them in black and they go with everything (trousers, shorts, even dressier occasions!). The best part about them is that they are pretty affordable at $35-$50 depending. This is a great price if you

Pros
  • Nylex lining for superior comfort.
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks

Don't buy anymore in moccasin

I'd had them for pretty much exactly 3 months when I looked at the heel and realized it was almost completely worn down to the outer layer of the shoe. I spoke to Merrell to find out how long the shoes were (I've worn them A LOT!) and was told to report them as defective, which I did. There was a bit of back and forth but they agreed to replace the shoes and will send me a replacement once I send them a photo proving I have made the shoes unwearable. This is difficult for me because the defectโ€ฆ

Quality Merrill sneakers for kids who are a shoe threat!

My sons tear their shoes like crazy. Especially now that even the traditionally "reliable" and "high quality" shoe companies (I'm looking at you, Nike and Adidas!) are producing crap shoes, especially for kids. My boys can easily destroy a pair of Nikes in a week. We've learned that it's far more profitable to spend more money on shoes that last longer, look better for longer, and ultimately are better for my kids' feet. A pair of Brooks might cost $100, but my sons would rather outgrow themโ€ฆ
